The opportunity:

Markel is currently growing the Data team, we are looking for a new Data Quality Lead with Insurance industry experience to own the development of processes and standards to enhance Markel International data quality.

By working in close collaboration with stakeholders at all levels of the enterprise. This role requires a combination of technical expertise, problem-solving ability and strategic thinking to support and advance the data-driven objectives.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Engage with various data owners and stewards to understand the data utilization and quality issues specific to their business process; suggest and translate them into data validation rules.
  • Develop a robust framework for data validation to assure data integrity for regulatory and strategic requirements.
  • Perform in-depth root cause analysis of data issues and recommend a plan to prevent future defects ; proposing improvements for streamlining processes to improve data management.
  • Implement data validation rules in Data quality tools ensuring the rules reflect enterprise data quality standards and requirements.
  • Supervise the resolution of data validation rules failures according to SLAs , ensure timely follow-up and verification of fixes by conducting data quality councils and creating working groups as the need arises.
  • Coordinate with data consumers to manage risk acceptance processes by understanding risk tolerance levels.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards that summarise data quality metrics, trends and improvements providing a clear view of data quality across Markel International.

Our must-haves:

  • Solid background in data quality management with skills in data validation rule implementation and carrying out data profiling.
  • Superb communication skills for collaborating closely with senior technology and business stakeholders.
  • Understanding of the importance of data quality and the impact on business objectives and risk management.
  • Problem solving skills and consideration of all areas of insurance process to work out the strategy for improving data quality across enterprise.
  • Requires technical proficiency in SQL, PowerBI and DQpro.
