Lead Software Engineer - AI/ML, Python, Data, AWS

You will collaborate closely with business stakeholders and data scientists, address their technical challenges and take a proactive role in design and implementation decisions, turning experiments to scalable production engineering solutions. Having experience with ML engineering in commercial settings is highly desirable but not essential. 

As a Lead Software Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within the Corporate & Investment Banking's Research Technology Data & Applied AI/ML team, your role will be pivotal in our mission to industrialize AI/ML models at a large scale and develop well-structured, cloud-native, data-intensive microservices and products. You will be expected to demonstrate strong hands-on software engineering skills and experience in creating modern, scalable, and cloud-native data engineering solutions. Your involvement in cutting-edge projects such as recommender systems, NLP services, and Generative AI applications will be exciting. Your proficiency and practical knowledge in modern cloud-based data architectures and technologies, building end-to-end data-intensive micro-services, including automated data pipelines and backend API development, will be highly valued. As a skilled engineer with experience in architecting and implementing distributed systems, you will be expected to uphold high standards of design and coding practices. Your passion for learning, problem-solving, creative thinking, and a can-do attitude will be essential in this role.

Job responsibilities 

• Your role is central to our mission: industrialization of AI/ML models at scale, developing well-architected cloud-native data-intensive microservices and products.
• You are expected to have strong hands-on software engineering skills and experience in building modern, cloud-native and scalable data engineering solutions
• You will engage in exciting cutting-edge projects including recommender systems, NLP services and Generative AI applications.
• You have proficient and practical knowledge of modern cloud-based data architectures and technologies, building end-to-end data-intensive micro-services, including automated data pipelines and backend API development.
• You are a strong engineer with experience architecting and implementing distributed systems, adopting high standards of design and coding practices.
• You have a passion for learning, problem-solving, creative thinking and a can-do attitude.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

• Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience
• Proven track record in system design, architecting and developing microservices, distributed systems and data-intensive applications
• Advanced experience with AWS services, Infrastructure as Code, big data and modern data engineering technologies        
• Strong coding skills in Python or similar programming language, API and backend development
• Strong SDLC mindset and practitioner of high coding and testing standards and familiarity with agile paradigms
• Must be curious, detail-oriented, results- and client-focused, highly motivated by complex analytical and data problems
• Ability to convey design choices and results clearly and communicate effectively to stakeholders of various backgrounds 
• Excellent creative problem solver, a data enthusiast and passionate about realizing the full power of applied AI/ML and analytics in real complex and large corporate environments  

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

• Experience developing large-scale Cloud-native data/AI/ML engineering solutions in large corporate environments 
• Experience working on recommendation systems, NLP services, or other AI/ML systems
• Practical experience with Kubernetes, EKS, MLOps 
• Prior experience collaborating with data scientists    
• Familiarity with modern front-end technologies, full-stack development
