The Data Science Research Coordinator plays a crucial role in supporting the Department of Surgery at Nemours Jacksonville, actively contributing to cutting-edge pediatric surgical research. Working closely with research investigators, the candidate will navigate complex research and regulatory requirements, including IRB submissions, to establish robust research protocols. A significant aspect of their responsibilities will involve collecting and managing clinical data from the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and other databases. The candidate must ensure research data sets adhere to established standards, prevent replication, and guarantee appropriate distribution while complying with security and privacy guidelines such as HIPAA.


As a pivotal link between Principal Investigators, external funding agencies, partner hospitals, and various stakeholders within Nemours, the Data Science Research Coordinator will facilitate seamless communication and collaboration. Additionally, the role extends to being part of the Biomedical Research Informatics Center (BRIC), where they will act as a liaison to leverage the expertise and resources of the group including coordinating innovative analyses of research datasets. Active involvement in coordinating and executing research projects will significantly contribute to advancing pediatric surgical care and enhancing overall child health outcomes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required (preferably in mathematics, statistics, data science, or computer science)
  • Medical Coding Certificate, Data Analytics Certificate, Epic Certifications preferred
  • Health care industry experience, including health care operations, grant and research administration, clinical heath data management, or statistical analysis is highly preferred.
  • On-the-job training of electronic data bases to be used as well as research regulatory processes will be provided. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate research activities within the Nemours Jacksonville Department of Surgery, collaborating with principal investigators, physicians, fellows, residents, staff scientists, and biostatisticians throughout the entire research process.
  2. Establish strong collaborative relation with the Director of Research and Administrator of Research for North Florida in all aspects of study development and implementation locally. 
  3. Engage in assisting in project design, regulatory/IRB approval, grant/contract management, patient recruitment, data collection, data analysis, and presentation or publication of findings.
  4. Communicate effectively with all levels of management and end-users to understand and fulfill enterprise and departmental data extraction and reporting needs.
  5. Collaborate with colleagues in the Biomedical Research Informatics Core (BRIC) to identify and enlist additional expertise in data management, data science, and statistics suitable for each research study.
  6. Stay current with Protection of Human Subject training and ensure strict compliance with IRB protocols, as well as adherence to established enterprise data privacy and security guidelines to protect sensitive patient information and research data.
  7. Demonstrate proficiency in Epic reporting tools, including Reporting Workbench and Slicer-Dicer, for efficient extraction and utilization of healthcare data.
  8. Utilize data management tools like REDCap to facilitate seamless data collection, storage, and analysis.
  9. Apply advanced data analysis techniques to derive meaningful insights from research data, contributing to the overall success of research projects.
  10. Obtain and maintain credentials with Wolfson Children's Hospital while building productive partnerships with Wolfson clinical and technical staff.
