Summary of Job Duties:
The GSIE Data Analyst extracts and analyzes information from administrative, student, and other databases in order to provide information and insights to university and college leadership, multiple departments across campus, as well as external constituencies. Responsibilities include providing data for federal and state reporting requirements, responding to surveys from professional sources, performing ad hoc data extraction and analysis, programming/data engineering tasks as required, collaborating with the team and others outside the department on various data projects, and any other duties as assigned.A foundational or better understanding of SQL and data relationships is important, as is the ability to write queries of varying complexity that produce the desired output. An understanding of how to communicate trends and insights using thought-provoking visualizations is also important to the role. The incumbent should seek opportunities to continuously improve the team’s technical footprint by automating manual or laborious processes to free up time to innovate in other ways.
Great communication skills are essential as the incumbent will help establish and promote a data-driven campus culture, collaborate with campus data partners, and contribute to the overall data strategy mission of the university. Additionally, understanding the importance that data accuracy and data quality plays into the success of data-driven decision making is a key element of the role and the team.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning
Experience with statistical methodologies
At least three years of data-related experience
A foundational or better understanding of SQL and how to join multiple datasets together to reach intended output
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced SAS language development skills
Familiarity with SAS programming, Python, R or equivalent
Experience with developing SAS or SPSS reports from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville campus student records system (UAConnect) and other campus applications/platforms
Experience in using advanced statistical methodologies
Experience assisting people in choosing the best statistical methodologies
ETL/ELT data pipeline experience
Experience in the reporting, analytics, and/or BI space
Project management experience/skills
Previous higher education experience
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to communicate both professionally, and clearly with technical and non-technical personnel
