Milliman’s Milwaukee-based property and casualty practice is a leading expert in evaluating mortgage collateral for government agencies, mortgage lenders, insurers, reinsurers, and investors. Our consulting work is supported by a powerful toolkit of data analytics solutions informed by years of in-depth work in the mortgage industry.

What You Will Do

MPIR-e is a cloud-based software that models risk data used by mortgage reinsurers. Our Data Scientists rely on a suite of modeling tools that ranges from econometrics to machine learning. Data Science Interns support the design and development of high-quality modeling solutions through data processing, analytics, building PowerBI dashboards and reports, testing, documentation and other projects. This is a great opportunity for a naturally curious, thoughtful student to apply quantitative techniques in real-world business problem-solving.

Responsibilities include:

  • Gather, clean, and validate mortgage data
  • Document business requirements and conduct testing
  • Perform exploratory analysis of data using visualizations and summary statistics
  • Prepare reports of findings for review by Data Scientists and consultants
  • Research and develop predictive models to solve mortgage analytics problems

 

What We Are Looking For

Professional Qualifications (required)

  • Current college student pursuing a degree in Statistics, Math, Computer Science, Economics, or another quantitative field
  • Completion of one data science college course
  • Experience programming in SAS, SQL, R, and/or Python
  • Knowledge of regression models

  • Proactively seeks out possible solutions to a problem
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Understanding of relational database concepts
  • Working understanding of statistics

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with data visualization (e.g., PowerBI, Tableau)
  • Predictive modeling experience

The expected application deadline for this job is June 1, 2024. This position is based out of the Milliman office in Brookfield, WI. Candidates hired into this role must be willing to work onsite at least one day per week during their internship.
