Colby Community College is located in northwest Kansas, approximately 50 miles from the Nebraska and Colorado borders. From a humble beginning of 99 students in 1964, CCC now serves more than 2,400 students annually. 

In addition to a 57-acre main campus, a 60-acre farm is used as a hands-on laboratory and training facility. The College also accommodates hundreds of off-campus students through face-to-face, online, and hybrid courses.

A number of studies conclude CCC is a solid educational investment. Colby has a strong history of student performance and ranks near the top for graduation and retention rates among Kansas community colleges. 

Job Description

Colby Community College seeks a full-time Success Coach/Student Data Analyst to provide academic support services, guidance, advising, and monitor student progress. This position also collects student data and uses predictive analytics to help identify student trends.
 

General Academic Advising Responsibilities

  • Assist students in navigating the collegiate experience.
  • Provide comprehensive academic advising to students.
  • Communicate effectively with multiple constituencies.
  • Assist students in choosing a Guided Pathway/major and career path.
  • Maintain advising notes, track advisees' performance, and provide additional support.
  • Interpret curriculum requirements, options, sequencing patterns, and best practices across Guided Pathways.
  • Implement strategic interventions to strengthen retention, persistence, and completion. 
  • Develop and implement retention strategies.
  • Learn new technology and tools designed for student success and integrate them into a balanced and holistic approach to advising.
  • Accurately communicate with students and their families regarding academic policies, procedures, courses, grades, appeals, and exceptions.

 

Career and Transfer Advising

  • Help students narrow their search for an educational program and/or career pathway best suited to them.
  • Develop and promote career exploration activities and events. 
  • Educate students regarding general transfer processes and timelines. 
  • Annually maintain transfer guides.

 

First Year Experience

  • Provide general oversight for the First Year Experience (FYE) program.
  • Teach one section of FYE per year.
  • Teach students about effective study and test-taking strategies, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Teach students how to develop academic goals and how to achieve them.

 

Preparation of Semester Schedules

Help prepare the semester course schedule with a logical and properly sequenced block schedule.

 

Institutional Research and Reporting Compliance

  • Assist in conducting research projects, surveys, and assessments to support institutional planning and decision-making.
  • Assist in analyzing institutional research findings.
  • Assist in collecting, compiling, and maintaining institutional data.
  • Assist in analyzing data to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement.

 

General Duties

  • Connect and provide referrals to College support services.
  • Participate in Learning Communities.
  • Generate reports on student progress and advising outcomes.
  • Manage and update advising publications, websites, and other collateral.
  • Stay current with academic program requirements, transfer agreements, and educational trends.
  • Assist students in transitioning and navigating the collegiate experience, developing decision-making skills, and utilizing College resources.
  • Provide comprehensive advising to students, establishing continuous advising relationships for the first two years with attention to transition and significant exploration.
  • Communicate effectively with multiple constituencies, including students, parents, faculty, staff, and community.
  • Challenge and support students to understand the complexities of self-discovery and begin choosing a Guided Pathway/major/career path.
  • Assist in the maintenance of student records and student data organization.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed advising notes through Civitas,
  • Track advisees' performance.
  • Interpret curriculum requirements, options, sequencing patterns, and best practices across Guided Pathways while exploring students' goals, developing academic plans, and understanding student's challenges.
  • Develop and implement strategic interventions and participate in retention and grade monitoring activities.
  • Counsel students regarding academic progress and standing, including those on academic probation and those dismissed from the College.
  • Learn new technology and tools designed for student success and integrate them into a balanced and holistic approach to advising.

 

Student Data Analyst Responsibilities

  • Assist in conducting research projects, surveys, and assessments to support institutional planning and decision-making.
  • Assist in analyzing institutional research findings.
  • Assist in collecting, compiling, and maintaining institutional data from various sources, including student enrollment, financial information, faculty demographics, and other relevant data points.
  • Assist in analyzing data to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement.

This is a twelve-month, non-faculty position, and it is anticipated to be a minimum of 40 hours per week. Occasional evening and weekend work is required. Participation in the state retirement program is required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Academic Advising
  • Working with students one-on-one, in small groups, and in large groups
  • Preparing student data reports
  • Scrupulous attention to matters of discretion and confidentiality
  • Sound judgment, tact, and discretion in handling confidential information
  • Online searching, data mining, data cleaning, and data organization
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, and meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

SALARY
$41,000 to $43,500, depending on credentials and experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree is required in a program of study in education, advising, or a related field; a master's degree is preferred.
  • At least two years of experience working in a higher education setting is required
  • Knowledge of Canvas LMS, data mining, Internet searching, and using student data software, or the ability to learn the necessary platforms and systems.
