Your mission

Ever since we launched in the US in 2020, JustPlay has been on a fast growth trajectory. We quickly became one of the top 100 most downloaded Google Play apps in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and as of recently, Europe. As we grow our users, launch new games and gain popularity in new regions, our data and our need for insights grows as well. This is where you come in! Joining JustPlay at a very exciting time to define the data vision and turn the large amount of data we’ve been collecting over the years into strategic insights.

As the Head of Data at JustPlay, you will oversee the organisation’s entire data ecosystem including data strategy, architecture, governance, and analytics. You will lead a team of talented Data Engineers and Data Analysts on your mission of turning data into critical insights that inform strategic decisions and product enhancements. Your leadership will ensure that JustPlay’s data stack and analytics capabilities supports our growth, product development, and operational needs effectively. Day to day, you will work closely with the VP of Engineering and other team Heads, and have the growth and product leads as well as the executive team as some of your main stakeholders. You will report directly to C-Level.

Job Responsibilities

In a nutshell, establish a data org (team, stack, reports, processes) that supports JustPlay’s growth, product development, and operational needs effectively. We believe this roughly translates into the following more specific responsibilities:

• Define and steer the company's data strategy, from technical data architecture to data usage across business teams

• Lead, grow and nurture your team of data engineers and analysts

• Support the organisation’s strategic growth and business stakeholders with analytics capabilities

• Establish a reliable “single source of truth” to base our reporting on - expand by adding data sources and establish data quality and governance

• Mentor and guide the team in establishing reliable, timely and accurate sourcing of reports and dashboards of key data points, metrics, analysis on Looker

• Instil a data culture in the company with your team at its core working in collaboration with engineering and business teams

• Work hands on while being a sparring partner to the executive team and a strong lead to your team

• Willingness to learn and experiment with new technologies and concepts to improve overall team performance and data stack

The experience we hope you bring to JustPlay

• 9+ years of experience in analytics roles, of which at least 4 in a leadership role leading a team of data analysts and data engineers

• Significant experience in B2C apps

• Ability to work hands on, as well as grow and nurture your team

• Solid understanding of KPIs relevant to each business function and strong stakeholder management skills 

• Effective project management and prioritisation of requests with regards to organisational priorities

• Expertise in cloud computing platforms, especially Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

• Previous experience rolling out a reporting tool similar to Looker

• Proficiency in SQL

• Proficiency in Python and a good understanding of software engineering principles (e.g. Git, Docker, code testing)

• Customer centric and pragmatic approach to solving problems

• Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal
