Within the R&D department, you will play a crucial role by applying your experience and methods to drive forward Data projects powered by our Data Platform. 

Our Data Platform, built on Open Source technologies and adhering to the architectural principles of the Modern Data Stack, supports a wide range of use-cases within Skeepers, from integrating Machine Learning features into our products to providing embedded analytics in our back-office applications, internal BI, and large-scale data processing 

As an Engineering Manager, your contributions and coaching will be crucial for the team's success and the enhancement of their skills. On a daily basis, you will lead an empowered squad, working closely with the Product Team and taking charge of critical technical decisions.  

Responsibilities  

You will assume a key role in managing Skeepers’s Data roadmap and its technical teams. Your key responsibilities encompass:  

Solution Roadmap (Product & technical):  

  • Work closely with the Product Team to build solutions customers love  
  • Build an architecture vision for complex projects. Break them down into milestones to make them more manageable as a team and consistent with the vision and business constraints. 

Deploy and ensure engineering best practice:  

  • Lead and inspire a team of talented developers  
  • Evangelize best software development practices (DDD, TDD, CICD) with the squad  
  • Perform code reviews and design reviews to ensure compliance with development standards  
  • Maintain high standards of software quality within the team by establishing best practices and habits  
  • Engage in technological monitoring to uncover beneficial new features (libraries, patterns, etc.) to achieve the objective of a reliable, maintainable and performing code  

Team management:  

  • Manage your team (career interview, training, performance, …)  
  • Partner with HRBP team to attract and retain high quality and diverse talent  
  • Provide technical leadership to teammates through coaching and mentorship on a regular basis  

Delivery management:  

  • Collaborate with team members to develop highly available and fault-tolerant distributed applications 
  • Collaborate with our Cloud Ops team to monitor, optimize and scale the platform  
  • Draft and review architectural diagrams, interface specifications, class structures, data pipelines and other design documents  
  • Ensure operational excellence (velocity, quality, monitoring, alerting, …)  

 

Technical stack  

  • Backend: Java, Scala 
  • Data Engineering: Spark, Kafka, Iceberg, Debezium 
  • Orchestration: Kubernetes, Temporal 
  • CI/CD: Gitlab, Argo CD 
  • Cloud provider: AWS  

Requirements

  • 10 years of experience in software development  
  • 2 years of experience in management or leadership of a software engineering team in Agile methodology 
  • Domain expertise in Modern Data stack with experience in developing cloud-based data solution components and architecture covering data ingestion, data processing and data storage 
  • Demonstrated project management and delivery experience  
  • Work as a leader, you have a strong sense of commitment to projects and team responsibilities  
  • Strong experience in training and coaching junior developers  
  • Strong leadership, time management, and problem-solving skills  
  • You can communicate effectively with other team members and stakeholders to explain and advocate your choices.  
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under strict deadlines  
  • Interest in building AI-powered services and products 
  • Good organization and communication skills  
  • Fluent in English
