For our Global Commercial Products team, with a basis the Pharma IT Hub in Barcelona, we are hiring a Senior Data Architect.

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Platform Architect to join our team. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that the core of our data infrastructure, our commercial data platform, is reliable, secure, and high performing. This data platform serves as the backbone of our data foundation. You will enforce best practices for efficient data management and analysis, thereby empowering our data product teams to derive valuable insights from their data.

This role is a fantastic opportunity for a seasoned platform professional to take the lead in managing a critical platform within Bayer Pharmaceuticals and ensure it remains at the forefront of technology. The successful candidate will have a significant impact on the efficiency and effectiveness of our data management and analysis processes.


YOUR TASKS & RESPONSABILITIES
 

  • Platform team: Hands-on and practical guidance for the data platform team in implementing best practices and resolving technical issues.
  • Architectural oversight: Ensure the architecture of the data platform is robust, secure, scalable, and interoperable and follows architecture principles. Regularly review and update the architecture to align with the company's evolving needs and technological advancements. Maintain a deep understanding of competitive and complementary technologies and vendors and how to position Bayer used technology in relation to them.
  • Performance optimization: Regularly monitor the platform performance. Identify areas for improvement (i.e. through code reviews), upskill platform users and implement solutions to enhance speed and efficiency.
  • Security management: Ensure the highest standards of data security on the platform. Implement and maintain rigorous data access controls in collaboration with data governance functions. Define and implement secure tool integration interfaces.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other teams within and outside of the Commercial Data Platform team to understand their data needs and ensure that the platform meets these needs. Position yourself as a trusted advisor to key stakeholders, such as analytics and country teams, with a focus on achieving their desired business outcomes.
  • User adoption: Drive key user groups towards the common goal of accelerating the adoption of our solutions and best practices.
  • Innovation: Explore, suggest and experiment with innovative solutions based on new technologies / features and latest trends.

WHO YOU ARE

 

  • University degree in informatics/computer science or adequate professional experience.
  • 4+ years of experience as a solution / platform architect, data engineer or similar role.
  • Cloud Services: Advanced understanding of managing software, IT infrastructure, and computing platforms accessed over the internet. 
  • Data Management: Proficiency in organizing data to ensure accessibility, accuracy, consistency, and security. Demonstrated understanding of data management best practices and patterns.
  • Advanced proficiency in data-related fields: SQL, Python, performance tuning and database optimization techniques.
  • Expertise in Snowflake concepts like cost-efficiency, setting up resource monitors, RBAC controls, virtual warehouse sizing, query performance tuning, zero copy clone, time travel etc.
  • Experience in version control systems (e.g., Git) and understanding of CI/CD processes. Preferable knowledge of Liquibase, GitHub Actions, git workflows.
  • Leadership experience.
  • Used to cross-functional collaboration in a complex environment.
  • Experience with other cloud data platforms such as AWS Redshift.
  • Experience in agile software development.  
  • Understanding of data security practices 
  • Experience with dbt, AWS, orchestration tools such as Airflow, Dagster, prefect and Collibra
  • Familiarity with machine learning and artificial intelligence concepts.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
