OVERVIEW:

Skillsoft’s Professional Services team provides world-class, value-add services that enable our customers to maximize the impact of their learning investment.  We do this through the strategic utilization of content, technology and learning and development methodologies that drive business results.  

We are currently seeking a Principal BI Developer.  The primary responsibilities will include the design, development, support and maintenance of our automated business intelligence products.

The Principal BI Developer will execute a portfolio of standard projects across multiple customers.  They will be responsible for identifying business requirements, design processes that leverage/adapt the business logic and regularly communicate with business stakeholders to ensure delivery meets business needs. Rapidly design, develop and implement reporting applications that insert KPI metrics and actionable insights into the operational, tactical and strategic activities of key business functions.

Establishing solid rapport and working relationships with all internal and external stakeholders for the duration of the project and to deliver clear value in accordance to the customer’s needs as described in the contract will be important for this role.

OPPORTUNITY HIGHLIGHTS:

The following responsibilities represent the varied daily activities of a Learning Engagement Manager:

• Hands-on with Power BI Desktop and Power BI Server/Service
• Support development of logical and physical processes in data warehouse including creating tables, triggers, ETL and stored procedures and functions to support data needs of the BI reports.
• Perform routine testing of own and others work to guarantee accurate, complete processes that support business needs.  Awareness and compliance with all organizational development standards, data dictionaries, industry best practices and business, security, privacy, and retention requirements.
• Routinely monitor performance, diagnose and implement tuning/optimization and work with team partners on the architecture and supporting data structure to guarantee high-performance, scalable reporting solutions.
• Partner with Product Owners and cross functional teams in a collaborative and agile environment
• Foster an environment of service design thinking, prototyping quick hitting solutions and high-value innovation opportunities for our functional partners.
• Document data flows and technical designs to ensure compliance with organization, business and security best practices.
• Regular evaluation of implemented tools for investment productivity and effectiveness.  Continually assess functional capabilities vs. other tools in market and opportunities for enhancing existing or introducing new tools.

​SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

• Education  - Degree in Information System Management, Data Engineering, Information Technology, CIS, CS, or related field or experience
• Business Intelligence Developer - 4-6 years of proven experience building and supporting Enterprise level Dashboards and Reporting solutions (Experience in Power BI is mandatory).
• Technical Expertise - Highly proficient in reporting, data manipulation and analysis applications (i.e. Tableau, Power BI - mandatory, T-SQL, SQL Server).  Highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite of applications.

• Structured thinking – Skilled at setting out ideas and thoughts in a logical pattern.  Ability to develop process documentation, technical manuals and instructions.
• Methodical approach – Practiced at breaking complex tasks into manageable segments and identify mitigation strategies to possible problems or stumbling blocks.
• Logical Reasoning – Ability to interpret information and assess resources against business needs.  Highly skilled at managing project workloads and priorities to meet deliverables.
• Results Oriented - Exhibits ownership and accountability. Develops challenging but achievable goals.
• Customer Focused – Personally demonstrated that both external and internal customers are a high priority by identifying and responding to their needs in a timely and efficient manner.
• Required Technical Experience – Power BI Desktop and Server / Service (Mandatory), Tableau, SQL Server & MS Office
• Preferred Technology Experience – Snowflake, Azure, Confluence, Jira, GitHub
• Working Hours   40 hours per week
• Some work outside of normal business hours will be required
