Mid/Senior Research Engineer (Learning To Rank)

Job Description

In Learning to Rank, we aim to develop machine learning models for search. Our primary focus is on ranking solutions in all phases of the search pipeline, serving millions of searches a day. Currently, our main area of expertise is neural text-based search and relevance. We also deal with various machine learning challenges related to the ads system at Allegro.

We are looking for people who:

• Write clean, robust, and production-grade code in Python and showcase proficiency in ML frameworks, particularly PyTorch, PyTorch Lightning, and Transformers
• Exhibit a track record of shipping and maintaining ML models in production environments.
• Possess a solid understanding of scientific research methodologies. Are proficient in the iterative process of conducting experiments, including hypothesis formulation, experimental design, data collection, analysis, result interpretation and reporting
• Find it exciting to identify relevant research papers, extract their essence, and present them to other team members in English
• Possess experience in at least one of the following areas:  information retrieval and ranking, machine learning for online advertising, natural language processing (including language models) and multimodal neural models
• Bonus points for prior experience in model training on very large datasets, data engineering in cloud environments, containers, and orchestration. Tools such as BigQuery, Spark and Kubeflow

In your daily work you will handle the following tasks:

• Identify, implement, train, and evaluate state-of-the-art machine learning models in the domains of search and advertising – with a strong emphasis on ranking solutions
• Collaborate with engineering teams who consume our models and put them in production
• Participate in the code review process
• Partake in seminars, prepare and deliver presentations
• Attend selected relevant conferences
• Work on research papers
