About the Role

As a Data Scientist you will deliver the AI strategy to ensure Capitec can compete in a changing landscape where data science is a key future-oriented strategic differentiator. You will design and implement predictive models or intelligent algorithms to better understand the drivers of business performance and enable improved management decision-making. 

Education (Minimum)

• Honours Degree in Mathematics or Statistics

Education (Ideal or Preferred)

• Masters Degree

Our ideal candidate has:

Experience

Minimum:

NB. Length of experience required is conditional on the qualifications obtained. 

• Experience in data science, machine learning and deployment of developed solutions.
• Business analysis and requirements gathering
• Reproducible coding experience 
• Working with relational and non-relational databases
• Experience in Python ML language

Ideal:

• Deliver predictive models into a production environment

Knowledge

Minimum:

• Have textbook data science knowledge - a solid understanding of state-of-the-art principles and techniques in at least one discipline of data science, e.g., NLP, Deep Learning, neural networks etc.
• Solution and experimental design for model development
• Machine learning development and underlying theory and assumptions of techniques. 
• Predictive modelling techniques (statistical and machine learning) and deployment
• Source control systems e.g., Git, Bitbucket, or similar
• Relational database technologies
• Data Science lifecycle and applicable skills within

Ideal:

• Familiarity with modern deep learning frameworks (Tensorflow, Keras, PyTorch, etc)
• SQL experience - extract data

• Follow predefined Data Science life cycle, write code and build predictive models
• Design, develop and test according to Data Science standards and best practice.

• Work on well-defined and structured problems and deliver on client expectations by providing end to end delivery into production quickly and efficiently.
