The Research Intern position at Pryon is designed to give students the opportunity to conduct industrial research and explore new directions in various application areas of NLP, including question answering, summarization, conversational AI, information extraction, large language models, and multilingual & multimodal modeling. Projects will be defined by the research group collaboratively with the intern at the beginning of the internship. The intern will work closely with the research team and be highly engaged in all aspects of the project, including both coding and experimentation, and the innovation and documentation of novel ideas. Interns should be current students in a Master’s or PhD program that is related to the work of the research group, including but not limited to machine learning, natural language understanding. This is a paid part-time internship and does not include benefits. 

In This Role, You Will:

  • Help solve fundamental problems in machine learning, natural language understanding and human computer interaction with applicability to practical commercial use cases
  • Explore a new research direction within these areas in collaboration with the research team, with the goal of executing a research project that can be published at top peer-reviewed venues
  • Conduct the associated coding, experimentation, documentation, and model development to drive the research project to success

What You'll Need to Be successful:

  • Required: Enrolled in a Masters/Ph.D. degree program or equivalent in speech or language technologies, computer science, statistics, or related topics.
  • Required: Experience with NLP & ML methodologies, deep learning, information retrieval, text generation, or related applications.
  • Required: Coding ability in an industry standard programming language (Python, C, C++, C#, Java, etc.) & familiar with a deep learning framework (PyTorch, TensorFlow etc.)
  • Required: Excellent critical thinking skills, combined with clear communication skills.
  • Required: Able to execute a research agenda with minimal supervision, and collaborate effectively with other researchers 
  • Preferred: Publication(s) at peer-reviewed conferences or journals
