Salary: £29,605 to £30,487 with progression to £32,982 per annum

The Role 

 

This post presents an excellent opportunity for a talented individual to join the Library’s Content and Discovery team. The post holder will play an important role in the processes around acquiring the information resources needed to support University education and research.  They will ensure that resources in all formats (including print and electronic) are sourced, maintained and made discoverable in the most effective way.  They will also contribute to the Library’s objective to improve strategic data collection and reporting. 

 

The post is full-time (37 hours per week) Monday to Friday and is suitable for blended working.

Key Accountabilities 

  • Supporting the Head of Content and Discovery in identifying and retrieving trusted data to support Library purchasing, renewal, access and stock retention decisions

  • Assisting in designing and producing regular management information reports

  • With the Partnership, Licensing and Management Information Librarian, ensuring that data is presented in a format that allows it to be easily interpreted and exploited to help inform accurate decision making. This includes oversight of the relevant Library dashboards

  • Day-to-day management of queries coming to Content and Discovery from LibraryHelp, ensuring that a supportive, accurate and timely service is provided at all times 

  • Supervising and supporting Content and Discovery staff in the delivery of services 

  • Keeping Frequently Asked Questions relating to resource access queries up to date

  • Management of tasks associated with specialist purchasing workflows such as Evidence Based Acquisitions, the High Demand Texts service and etextbooks, including supervising the staff and workflows relating to this

  • Liaising with relevant staff across the service on reviewing workflows, testing and developments to ensure systems and processes used by Content and Discovery deliver a streamlined and innovative service

  • Supporting the Metadata Librarians in maintaining quality metadata in the Library catalogue to support resource discovery, ensuring international standards are maintained

  • Managing specific projects as directed by the Head of Content and Discovery

  • Any other duties, consistent with the post’s grade, as requested by senior colleagues

 

The Person 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience  

  • Experience of managing and supervising staff

  • The ability to work effectively within a team

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to engage colleagues at all levels and to respond sensitively to a range of views

  • Research skills, including the ability to analyse complex data, and an understanding of the role of management information in supporting decision making

  • Good IT skills, including proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office packages and web-based software, particularly creating and maintaining Excel reports

  • Experience of promoting a project, policy or service using a range of media

  • Experience of successfully promoting and maintaining best practice 

  • The ability to communicate within relevant internal and external networks across a wide range of partnerships

  • Excellent organisational and time management skills; ability to manage own workload, recognise priorities, and work to deadlines whilst maintaining a high degree of accuracy

  • Proven track record of developing and reviewing policies and procedures

  • Demonstrable problem-solving skills

Qualifications 

  • An undergraduate degree, or relevant professional experience
