The Investment Data Analyst will work directly with Acorns’ Chief Investment Office (CIO).  As part of the CIO’s team, you will be responsible for analyzing all investment securities (stocks, ETFs, crypto, alternatives) and their suitability for various portfolios.  Analysis will include a range of statistical considerations including volatility, correlations and optimal diversification.  Main responsibilities will also include the creation of educational content from historical market data and long-term security price trends.  The ability to prepare presentation materials and a strong background in writing is a necessity.  Skills needed include a background in mathematics/statistics, finance and portfolio analysis as well as a familiarity with investing.  Candidates with software coding capabilities will be prioritized.

This role has the option to be remote, but proximity to the Los Angeles area is preferred.

Within 1 month, you will:

  • Introduce yourself to the organization and familiarize yourself with how the CIO and Investment Committee work across the organization
  • Learn and understand the currently constructed portfolios, performance benchmarks and history of the investment organization
  • Construct a resource framework for the data, tools and counter-parties necessary to build a highly-functioning internal analytics platform under the guidance of the CIO

Within 3 months, you will:

  • Build out the internal analytics engine of the current portfolios and analyzed future portfolio and security options
    • Design a platform for analyzing optimal portfolio construction, including a database structure for security correlations
    • Begin analyzing the history of financial markets and working with counter-parties to create educational content for customers regarding the benefits of long-term investing
  • Introduce yourself to the product development teams and be the liaison between investment oversight and product features
    • Introduce yourself to the education team and collaborate on content development
  • Work with internal groups to undertake ad hoc analysis related to investment securities, diversification and portfolio analysis

Within 6 months, you will:

  • Develop, maintain and enhance financial analysis related to all portfolio functions
  • Construct benchmark analysis for current and future portfolio considerations
  • Create and maintain a database of education content related to historical market trends
  • Work intimately with product development and education teams
  • Create presentations for both internal and external facing communications of the CIO

What you will bring to Acorns:

  • Investment analysis focused on portfolio construction, including diversification, correlation and overall risk assessment
  • Security analysis related to both ETFs and single-stocks - related to new security offerings - approved list for current/future products
  • Investment content tied to education and social media messaging
  • Presentation and other content aggregation preparedness
  • Technical skills including statistics, financial analysis and potentially coding
  • Finance proficiency, in depth understanding of capital markets and securities analysis and market dynamics
  • Presentation capabilities
  • 2-3 years of experience in investment banking, hedge funds, private equity or some form of engineering / accounting with a focus on investments
