About the Role 

The Junior Data Scientist supports a broad spectrum of business stakeholders by finding innovative connections through data mining. Providing the business with insights into the current and likely future behaviour of Rests members and employers.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Support a team that devises, develops and maintains a suite of advanced analytical assets for Rest.
  • Support the design and build data mining, analytical modelling, predictive and prescriptive analytics and modelling.
  • Support the design and build customer segmentation, value measurement within the analytics environment.
  • Support the design and build of data summarization to provide insights or forecasting into the future based on patterns identified from past and current data.
  • Support the design, development and implementation of business intelligence strategies and overall analytics.
  • Support the design and development of analytical projects designed to understand key business behaviours (including member behaviours and competitor behaviours) that drive customer acquisition, retention, and engagement.
  • Support the identification of opportunities to develop forecasts, statistical models, segmentation schemes, and data-driven analyses to drive marketing and retention efforts

Qualifications

About You:

  • The role will appeal to a recent graduate with tertiary qualification in Data Science / Computer Science / Statistics / Mathematics or related discipline.

Required experience, understanding or credentials including:

  • Solid understanding of advanced analytics, data mining and machine learning.
  • Experience in SQL, Python and R.
  • Experience of Snowflake, Redshift, EC2 and S3.
  • Experience in stakeholder management with the ability to translate business problems into analytical solutions.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, lifting the conversation out of the technical jargon, with a willing to reach out, discuss and collaborate with key stakeholders, both independently and as a team.
  • Ability to think strategically and support the development of analytical assets for future needs.
  • Ability to work under pressure including the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritise work, manage time, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative, work autonomously and set priorities, whilst being able to adapt quickly to a changing environment.
  • Industry knowledge – experience and/or understanding of superannuation/financial services industry/insurance preferred.
