Co-op: Data Engineer

What this position is all about: Cellarity is seeking a technically and academically strong, high motivated Data Engineer Co-Op to join a dynamic team of software and Data Engineers. You will be closely interacting with data engineering team and contributing to Cellarity’s various data and software initiatives to support our scientific and business objectives.  We expect the individual to be well-versed in data engineering concepts and ability to design and support automated data pipelines and data models to solve business challenges.

What you would be responsible for:

• As a junior engineer you will be working closely with senior data & software engineers, different stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to build scalable data pipelines.
• Day to day activities include finding the data, accessing the data, and further run ETL pipelines to enable data consumption by applications.
• Will design, develop, and write code essentially in python, SQL on AWS environment.
• Working closely with the head of data infrastructure, you will be contributing to designing novel methods to streamline data cataloguing and governance.
• Optimize data processing and querying performance to ensure timely access to high-quality data.
• Work closely with computational biologists, MLOps and AWS teams to enable seamless dataflow between data sources and applications.
• Develop and support data pipelines connecting web applications.
• Creating architectural diagrams and documentation on data models, data infrastructure and user guides.

What experience will you need:

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
• Absolutely necessary to have strong programming skills in Python, Java, or another programming language commonly used in data engineering.
• Strong understanding of Pandas and other data analysis and engineering tools.
• Expertise with SQL and database management systems (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, or SQL Server).
• Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and experience with cloud-based data platforms specifically AWS.
• Familiarity and understanding of serverless architectures, specifically AWS Lambda.
• Prior Co-Op or work experience in data engineering is desired.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
