Data Scientist, Incentives Personalization

THE ROLE Hopper launched a currency in the form of incentives named “Carrot Cash” in 2020 in order to rapidly grow and activate new users and engage millions of existing users. As this successful product scales its reach and integrates with Hopper’s proprietary fintech offerings, we’re looking for an experienced Data Scientist to take on iterating Carrot Cash related products from initial offerings to iterative programs that learn as the product matures.A great fit will have a natural curiosity about the motivations behind users booking travel, and is excited by the challenge of introducing novel optimizations and learnings in a data-rich environment. They are not afraid to deploy models that impact users day-to-day, and can be pragmatic in simplifying complex math problems into actionable product insights.You will work closely alongside your cross-functional engineering and product team on projects such as optimizing rewards programs based on user-price sensitivity, quantifying leading indicators of LTV to inform onboarding programs and building out personalization engines to inform promotional offers, among other initiatives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:• 3+ years of working in data science, including time spent analyzing B2C or direct-to-consumer products • Proven ability to work effectively across varying levels of technical expertise, collaborating with software engineers and product managers to influence decision making with data-driven insights • Proficient using SQL, Pandas, Python or other tools appropriate for large scale data preparation and analysis • Experience with business reporting tools such as Tableau, Amplitude
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:• Exposure to uplift modelling, retention products and marketing analytics • Experience building personalization engines, and utilizing the profiles to inform product actions • Prior projects utilizing our tech stack, including Google Cloud Platform, model building in TensorFlow and using Airflow to manage ETL tasks

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Deliver solutions that optimize or introduce data-driven product features while balancing value provided to the user with long-term sustainability for Hopper
- Contribute to end-to-end analytics development, specifying tracking requirements for engineering, integrating new data into existing ETL flows and consuming the data to generate actionable insights
- Internalize critical KPIs for the team and serve as an SME and a reliable source of truth for how they are measured
- Seek out, understand, incorporate and communicate qualitative and quantitative feedback throughout the development process leveraging surveys, user testing and user data to measure performance in app
- Work autonomously in a cross-functional, agile product group with Product Managers, Engineers, and Designers to prioritize and build new features
- Prioritize appropriately: Use good judgement to make appropriate tradeoffs to speed up product learning and balance competing priorities
