The team... 

Engineering Productivity’s mission is to “empower Ocado Technology product streams to optimally deliver their core business value”. The Insight Services department focuses on the needs of the those streams to observe application performance in Production, measure their outcomes/value through data and utilise that information to create new value. The applications we provide are wide ranging including SaaS from large vendors like New Relic and Pagerduty, through to building machine learning platforms for our data science teams to build and run models. Regardless of the tool, the aim is to make sure our product teams have what they need to efficiently deliver high quality, market leading solutions in ecommerce and logistics.

The team is primarily focused on enabling Ocado Technology to use meaningful data for evidence-based decision-making ‘in one click’. This means creating data, datasets, data workflows, dashboards, reports as well as preparing analysis and hypotheses not only for the department’s purpose but for the entire organization. The role is not a report/dashboard factory but rather enabling the organization to access, understand and use the data on every level in a self-service way.

What I will be doing... 

  • Supporting the product management and engineering teams through regular and ad-hoc analysis of technical and non-technical metrics, automating as much as possible.
  • Understanding the reporting requirements and designing BI reports and dashboards.
  • Building relationships with business users and stakeholders
  • Modelling data object and designing data workflows
  • Understanding department processes and goals
  • Identifying required data sources and building data transformation tools
  • Understanding and enhancing the data architecture
  • Designing data models 
  • Requirements analysis
  • Collaborating with developers within team to create integrations with 3rd party data sources & systems

  • Analytics 101 
    • Designing KPIs and Metrics that Matter
    • Applying data analysis techniques and mathematical methods to complex problems 
    • Large/complex datasets, SQL
    • Data-warehousing principles and best practices (Dimensional Modelling, Cube Design)
    • Building self-service BI solutions e.g. Tableau, Looker, DataStudio
    • Strong ability to manipulate and blending data from data sources

We'd love too speak to you if you have... 

  • Significant demonstrable experience in a Data / Business Analyst role 
  • Degree in Computer Science, Maths, Physics, Engineering or similar highly numerate subject
  • Commercial-awareness and user-focused - ability to understand needs and identify priorities to unlock value 
  • Can-do attitude in a fast-paced, complex and often ambiguous environment 
  • Strong bias for action and impatience for improvement 

It would be great, but not essential, if you have... 

  • Experience of Agile software development methodologies, for example Scrum or Kanban.
  • Experience of Google Cloud Platform  & BigQuery
  • Experience of leading and directing other analysts/developers
  • Understanding of programing language (e.g. Python)
  • Advanced Analytics: Machine learning and simulation
