Who you are:
A successful candidate will consistently demonstrate Geotab’s Core Values in all daily work and interactions. They are responsible for the contribution and maintenance of the departmental Wiki. You are able to work in an open working environment with moderate exposure to noise (business office with computers, printers, light traffic, telephone calls). You also have the ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time.
What you'll do
The Data Science Intern assists in the design and construction of new processes for data modelling using prototypes, algorithms, predictive models, and custom analyses. This internship position works closely with a team of data scientists and other technical professionals to make predictions through the extraction of information from the Geotab data repository needed to solve complex business issues.

How you'll make an impact

  • Assist in the design of data modeling processes.
  • Help create algorithms and predictive models to extract information required to solve complex business problems.
  • Collaborate with internal technical teams to gather requirements.
  • Generate queries from Geotab’s Big Data Infrastructure from data warehousing database (i.e. Google BigQuery).Utilize Machine Learning (ML) packages (e.g. Scikit-learn and Tensorflow) to develop ML models and features.
  • Make recommendations for new metrics, techniques and strategies to improve Geotab’s product suite.
  • Design, develop and maintain ongoing metrics, reports, analyses, and dashboards to assist in business decisions.

What you'll bring to this role:

  • 0-2 years experience as a Data Scientist or within the final year(s) of a Postsecondary Data Science Degree. 
  • Post-secondary Degree specialization in Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, or related field of study in progress.Basic understanding of Machine Learning algorithms and Big Data tools.
  • Working knowledge of programming languages (e.g. Python, SQL, C++) and object-oriented programming.
  • Working knowledge of Big Data tools and data mining/warehousing programs (e.g. Google BigQuery). 
  • Willingness to learn and exhibit a strong work ethic.
  • Eager to experience working within a technical or engineering organization.
  • Creative mindset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • High accuracy and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and respond to fast changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Strong team player with the ability to engage with all levels of the organization.
  • Technical competence using software programs, including but not limited to, Google Suite for business (Sheets, Docs, Slides).
