Discovering and enacting the path to safe artificial general intelligence

Posted 2 months ago

The Research Engineer role is responsible for building AI systems that can perform previously impossible tasks or achieve unprecedented levels of performance. This requires good engineering (for example: designing, implementing, and optimizing state-of-the-art AI models), writing bug-free machine learning code (surprisingly difficult!), and building the science behind the algorithms employed. In all the projects this role pursues, the ultimate goal is to push the field forward. The Acceleration team works on developing new deep learning architectures and optimization techniques that improve training efficiency, and builds highly optimized deep learning models. For example, we recently published our work on a novel approach to sparse attention (https://openai.com/blog/sparse-transformer/).

You might be a good fit if you

    • Love performance optimization and implementing high performance AI models
    • Have contributed to an AI framework such as PyTorch or Tensorflow; or have experience writing code for GPUs such as CUDA/OpenCL kernels
    • Are self-directed and enjoy figuring out the most important problem to work on
    • Own problems end-to-end, and are willing to pick up whatever knowledge you're missing to get the job done
