At Coursera, our Data Science team is helping to build the future of education through data-driven decision making and data-powered products. We drive product and business strategy through measurement, experimentation, and causal inference. We define, develop, and launch the models and algorithms that power content discovery, personalized learning, and machine-assisted teaching and grading. This is a 10-week full-time contract position where you will develop a world-class research report on learner experiences at Coursera.  We are looking for a collaborative Data Science contractor that will be embedded as a full-time member of our Data Science team and paired with a mentor. You will work on real features and generate insights that inform our decision about how best to serve our 50+ million learners worldwide.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform literature review and analyze Coursera platform data on millions of learners to generate insights for internal and external reporting.
  • Develop insights for Data Scientists, PR and Marketing Managers to better understand how learners are interacting with our product
  • Provide input on survey design and analyze survey data.
  • Distill insights from complex data, communicating findings to technical and non-technical audiences

Basic Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or related field 
  • Experience with relational databases and SQL for data retrieval
  • Experience with at least one scripting language (e.g. R or Python)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with explaining technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Experience with designing clear and informative data visualizations
  • Experience with story-telling  through data
  • Project management and cross-functional collaboration skills
