The Role

Data at Slice is a unified group consisting of Data Engineering, Data Science, Analytics and Data Strategy & Governance. We are looking for an experienced Engineering leader to scale our data platform and team, reporting directly to the SVP of Data.

We are looking for an experienced engineering and people leader who thrives in highly cross-functional environment. You will also have demonstrable leadership skills in data architectures and the modern data stack.

What you'll do

• Own and expand the company’s data platform - both by optimising existing data, ingesting new data and by exporting data to our production systems.
• Contribute to and execute on the vision for the continuous improvement of the company’s data stack for the short, medium and long-term.
• Partner cross- functionally to understand the biggest problems to solve and build a roadmap to tackle them.

Essential Criteria

• 10+ years of total experience as a Software Engineer (at least 4 of which as a Data Engineer)
• 4+ years of experience managing teams
• Domain expertise in the modern data stack: ideally Kafka, Scala or Python using Spark
• Experience working on a major cloud platform (Azure, GCP or AWS)
• Expertise working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases
• Experience working with unstructured datasets
• Working knowledge of message queuing, stream processing and highly scalable data stores
• Strong project management and organisational skills
• Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment

 Desirable Criteria

• Experience working on AWS
• Experience building a unified data platform (Databricks, etc.)
