The PeopleInsight team is looking for a Data Engineer to help us build and expand our data platform. Join us to build the data solutions that go beyond the nightly data warehouse refreshes and conventional ETL scripts. Help us build and scale the infrastructure and software needed to create new products for employee reach out across multiple commination channels. The work has a crisp ROI that can be measured and helps Amazon move faster through a workforce that can focus on right things as we continue to innovate on employee experience along with customer experience.

A day in the life
Success in this role will include building the infrastructure to answer questions with data, using software engineering best practices, data management fundamentals, data storage principles, and recent advances in distributed systems. Along with writing ETL Code, you will also be responsible for managing AWS resources including EC2, RDS, Redshift, etc. You will collaborate with Business Intelligence Engineers (BIEs) to recognize and help adopt best practices in reporting and analysis: data integrity, test design, analysis, validation, and documentation. While delivering on data solutions you will help drive the architecture and technology choices that enable a world-class user experience. You will work on solving difficult problems with elegant and practical code. At every step you will aim to raise the bar on quality, consistency, maintainability, efficiency, security and all the other things that make great software and data products.

The team is a multidisciplinary group of engineers, product managers, and designers engaged in a fast-paced mission to deliver new products. You should be comfortable collaborating in a fast-paced and often uncertain environment, and contributing to innovative solutions. You should also be comfortable collaborating regularly with colleagues across many different Amazon teams.

Basic Qualifications


· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field or 2+ years industry experience.
· Demonstrated industry leadership in the fields of Database and/or Data Warehousing, Big Data processing
· Knowledge of large data manipulation and data mining using SQL and python/other scripting languages.
· Excellent SQL query performance tuning skills
· Solid written and verbal communication skills
· Ability to work in a team environment that promotes collaboration.
· Proven ability to build and support large-scale data solutions serving a global customer base
· Be self-driven, and show ability to deliver on ambiguous projects with incomplete or dirty data.
· Ability to understand business requirements, convert them into technical solutions and deliver software incrementally
· Understanding of data, application, server, and network security

Preferred Qualifications

· Knowledge of software engineering best practices across the development lifecycle, including agile methodologies, coding standards, code reviews, source management, build processes, testing, and operations
· Advanced knowledge and expertise with Data modelling skills, Advanced SQL with Redshift, MySQL, and Columnar Databases
· Advanced knowledge of a scripting language such as: Java, Python or R.
