Senior Engineering Manager, Data Science

Myntra’s technology  teams build the platform that empowers our customers’ shopping experience and enables the smooth flow of products from suppliers to our customers’ doorsteps. We work on areas such as building massive-scale web-applications, engaging user-interfaces, big-data analytics, mobile apps, workflow systems, inventory-management etc. We are a small technology team where each individual has a huge impact. You will be part of: DS Engineering 

• This team forms a bridge between Data Science and Engg platforms. DS Engg team owns services that serve recommendations throughout the shopping funnel as well as off app batch recommendations for Supply Chain, CRM and other functions.
• Primary tenets of the team :
•  Enhance the fundamental algorithms built by Data Scientists for online serving at very high throughput and super low latency (Think 1 mn queries per minute @P99 latency of 80ms). There is complete freedom to work on optimizations at multiple levels including a)os level optimizations through concurrent/parallel programming  b)hardware level optimizations using GPUs, FPGAs etc.
• Utilize best practices and innovations  for cost efficient offline training of models by creating the required data pipelines and using techniques like distributed model training.

The role

This position reports into the Director of Data Science and the individual is expected to collaborate closely with Managers in Data Science to deliver high impact services created over Data Science models. The role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of ML and distributed systems.

• Execution and Delivery :  As leader of the DS Engg team you will be expected to instill and follow good software development practices and ensure timely delivery of high-quality products.  

• People Management: This is a people manager role and involves building and managing a high performing team of DS engineers

• Technical innovations: You will follow the latest developments in scaling up ML workloads and push the team to adopt industry best practices and techniques

Required Skills and Experience:

• Experience as people manager for  a team of Data Engineers/SDEs for 5+ years in current or previous roles
• Experience working with distributed systems for computation including Hadoop, Spark, MapR and distributed data stores like Redis, Apache Ignite, Cassandra, Dynamo DB etc. (Note: experience with any one tool from each category is sufficient) at a consumer internet company or Enterprise software company
• Strong ​programming​ skill (Java, Python or C++). While the role does not involve coding 100% of the time, the ability to guide team members on technical aspects and perform design and code reviews is necessary.
• Good grasp of fundamentals of computer science

Preferred skills/traits (non mandatory):

• Experience productionizing machine learning models is a plus 
• Interest and curiosity to learn about Data Science and Machine learning
• Exposure to edge (on-device) deployment with limited resource constraints is a plus
