Headquartered in San Francisco, CA, Dropbox has more than 12 offices around the world.   The Data Science team is a central function whose goal is to build a deep understanding of Dropbox users, their motivations, and how they use our products. This team leverages a variety of data sources and quantitative techniques to synthesize stories around how our customers use our products and develop key insights and actionable recommendations for our product teams.   In this role, you will lead a team of Data Scientists who use data to enable better decision-making for a portfolio Dropbox’s next gen products and features. You will work cross-functionally with product, engineering, design, marketing and research leadership to leverage data to guide both strategic and operational product decisions. You will be responsible for aligning key data science projects for you and your team with product roadmaps and ensuring you communicate your insights broadly.  Additionally, you will directly own and complete analytics milestones for a selection of high-priority projects.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of high performing data scientists and help them execute along the most important priorities for the ranking team and Dropbox Core as a whole.
  • Coach, mentor and help set strategy for Data Scientists to drive even more impact for the team
  • Partner with other data science teams across the company to develop a common quantitative perspective on how we understand our products
  • Maintain a high bar in terms of product thinking and analytical depth for your team through selective hiring and mentorship.
  • Partner with  engineers, researchers , designers and product managers effectively and contribute heavily  to major analytical and product initiatives across the product areas in your scope
  • Work to develop a product metrics model for your area of the product and continue to refine it through analysis, experimentation and research partnership
  • Leverage data and analytics to proactively identify the most impactful opportunity areas, and then build cases for why we should pursue them

Requirements 

  • 7+ years experience performing data-driven product analysis in a tech company
  • 2+ years directly managing or mentoring data scientists, quantitative researchers, or product analysts
  • 3+ years of experience communicating the results of analyses to leadership teams to influence the strategy
  • BS/BA in Math, Economics, Statistics, Computer Science, or other quantitative field
  • Experience initiating and drive projects to completion with minimal guidance
  • Ability to analyze large datasets and use data to inform product or business decision making, with a track record of driving directly measurable product or business impact
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment across Product, Engineering, Design and other business teams
  • Deep understanding of and empathy for end-users
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
