The Role- 

Modern Health's data team is growing rapidly, and we're looking to bring on a data scientist to help improve our members' experience. We're looking for someone who can bring hands-on experience developing production machine learning models to help build the first and second generations of ML-powered products to drive member engagement and outcomes. You'll be joining a small data science team and be heavily involved in shaping the team's direction and growth.

In this role, you'll dive deep into three main areas: triage, provider matching, and content recommendation. You'll use our members' activity and outcome data to understand whether members are a better fit for therapy, 1:1 coaching, or digital programs / self-guided courses. You'll work with product teams to collect information for making smart recommendations about which therapists and coaches will be the best fit for members. And you'll build on our engagement data to build recommender systems for digital content and events.

This role will report to the Data Engineering Manager and is not eligible to be performed in Colorado or Hawaii. Bay Area preferred

What You’ll Do-

  • Be a hands-on contributor building and shipping ML models
  • Partner with product, operations, and clinical care teams to understand user journeys and recommend product improvements
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, back-end, and data engineers to scope and design our ML platform / infrastructure
  • Partner with engineering leadership to develop a technical vision & roadmap for how Modern Health will apply ML to our business problems
  • Help grow the ML team's size and scope, defining best practices and operating principles
  • Review other data scientists' code and results to develop a culture of feedback and integrity
  • Foster a strong data-driven culture across Modern Health, from experimental design to rigorous decision-making

Who You Are-

  • 2+ years of experience building and shipping statistical models in a production setting
    • You are comfortable writing Python and using standard libraries like numpy and sklearn
    • You've worked in cloud environments, preferably AWS
  • You have exceptional verbal and written communication skills. You should be able to explain your approach and the impact of your work to non-technical stakeholders in a way that is clear to them.
  • You have a strong product acumen and and are comfortable interacting with customers directly when needed
  • You have the ability to balance business needs, a sense of urgency, and shipping high quality and pragmatic solutions
  • You keep up with the industry trends and identify new tools to use to solve technical problems
