We are happy to consider applications for future interns to assist in Data Science, Data Engineering, or Machine Learning Engineering that have a passion for sports to help power our world-class sports intelligence platforms that includes clients in professional baseball, basketball, cricket, football (American), hockey, soccer, golf and esports. During your internship, you can support the professional teams in our exclusive partner network in their efforts to compete and win championships. While Zelus is not currently hiring for internship positions, this application serves to collect information from applicants who wish to be considered in the future.

Your internship could involve:

  • Data modeling and quantitative analysis to support one or more research projects focused on player and team performance
  • Helping to develop, validate, and automate quantitative models using statistics, machine learning, optimization, and simulation
  • Performing ad-hoc data analysis to support our partner teams
  • Helping to design, develop, document, and maintain the schemas and ETL pipelines for our internal sports databases and data warehouses
  • Assisting the team to deploy and maintain system and database monitoring tools

A qualified internship candidate will be able to demonstrate several of the following and will be excited to learn the rest through the mentorship provided at Zelus:

  • We welcome online submissions from outstanding students who are in the final stages of their undergraduate or postgraduate education in relevant fields.
  • Professional or academic experience working with large, complex datasets, including through academic research, self-directed projects, and/or prior internships OR with ETL architecture and development in a cloud-based environment
  • Proficiency with mathematical and statistical programming languages (Python and/or R)
  • Proficiency data-oriented programming languages (Python (preferred), Scala, and/or other) 
  • Proficiency in SQL development and an understanding of database and data warehousing technologies
  • Proficiency with relational databases and cloud-based computing
  • Strong software-engineering and problem-solving skills
  • Enthusiasm for sports analytics and knowledge of recent public advances in the sports analytics research community
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
