The Role
Commercial Analytics in Europe is a new venture for Veeva.  Our objective is to use Advanced Analytics and Machine Learning to help the Life Sciences Industry engage with Health Care Professionals in a relevant way and improve patient care. As the Senior Principal Data Scientist, you will be reporting to the Director of Commercial Analytics in Europe and be part of the initial leadership team. Your responsibility will be to lead all data science-related activities. This includes developing analytical approaches tailored to our customer's business problems, leveraging state-of-the-art data science techniques, building and implementing models, and conducting quality checks. In addition, you will help build our data science team, work with the technical product owner to define the product roadmap, and define the priorities for extracurricular activities such as research efforts, conference participation, or support social impact initiatives. The Senior Principal Data Scientist will closely work with our Advanced Analytics Manager as well as with customers in order to stay close to the business problems we aim to solve. You will lead the data science efforts within the overall team of different functional experts covering data science, engineering, sales & marketing, as well as medical or user experience design. You will have a good understanding of the business problem and overall solution, allowing you to shape the data science solution components and ensuring close alignment with other workstreams to achieve customer success. You are entrepreneurial, meaning that you take action fast and bring up new ideas if you see opportunities to improve what we do. As we grow you will help to recruit new colleagues as well as take responsibility for their professional development and build our data science community. We are a Work Anywhere company and this position is remote with light travel in Europe to meet with customers or team members.

What You'll Do

  • Be part of the initial Commercial analytics leadership team that will define our solution offering
  • Closely work with the Advanced Analytics Manager and Lead Data Engineer to define the overall solution to achieve customer success
  • Lead the Veeva Data Science team to develop and deliver commercial analytics solutions with customers and take responsibility for the implementation of data science deliverables end-to-end
  • Work with the technical product owner to develop the innovation roadmap and bringing in the data science opportunities
  • Own organizational data science expertise ensuring continuous learning, knowledge of most recent techniques, and application of these
  • Build the team of data scientists making Veeva their first choice, develop a strong team spirit, lead community initiatives and support the professional development of your colleagues

Requirements

  • Master’s degree, Ph.D. or equivalent with a strong quantitative focus in a relevant field, e.g., computer science, physics, mathematics, engineering
  • 5-10 years professional experience as a data scientist, AI researcher, ML engineer, or related roles
  •  in a business context Proven leadership of data science teams in either an academic capacity (e.g., post-doc leading Ph.D. students) or in a business context
  • Up-to-date knowledge of latest data science innovation and techniques and ability to implement algorithms in commonly used programming languages (i.e. Python, R)
  • Close connectivity with the data science community to participate in e.g., R&D efforts, conferences, university talks, publications.
  • Excellent critical thinking and analysis skills as well as a passion and curiosity for developing innovative advanced analytics solutions in a business environment.
  • Strong ownership to drive the team to success keeping in mind the overall goals we aim to achieve.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with different audiences
  • Great team player that collaborates with diverse colleagues from different disciplines and backgrounds.
  • An inclusive approach to solving our problems considering perspectives from all colleagues.
  • Ability to travel within Europe 1-2 times per month
