The Paid Media DS team owns the data science modeling and strategy that optimizes targeting and bidding decisions across paid media marketing channels. Our goal is to build an industry-leading, customer-centric, data-driven, ML-powered decisioning engine (“WayLift”) at Wayfair to constantly optimize the high-volume, fast-changing marketing decisions for Paid Media marketing. Waylift has an opportunity to unlock billions of GRS for Wayfair over the next 2-3 years, while creating an ad experience that delights our customers. The team's mission is to provide the most impactful, broadest leverage of WayLift platform across the organization, while providing support and consulting for the cases the core systems do not cover.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Own the strategy, roadmap, and execution of WayLift Specialized Marketing solutions, leading our next phase of Waylift development and deployment that will help unlock billions of incremental GRS for Wayfair, while creating an ad experience that delights our customers.
  • Develop, coach, and manage a team of data scientists that improve targeting & bidding decisions beyond the WayLift core platform
  • Lead your team and cross-functional partners to solve problems in a way that makes things easier over time. Develop and deliver DS/ML solutions that drive significant impact & are designed to be extended/generalized/reused in other workflows or projects
  • Research industry trends and best practices in paid media marketing DS and bring that in life at Wayfair
  • Work cross-functionally with Marketing, MarTech Eng, and ML Plats Eng to build scalable marketing solutions, and influence the broader orgs technology plans for improving paid media marketing at Wayfair
  • Participate in meetings with Google, Facebook, Apple, etc., to understand ad vendors’ technical capabilities and limitations to make the right calls on our roadmaps, and influence their strategic roadmaps
  • Act as SME and provide mentorship and technical guidance beyond own team on the broader DS/Eng org when needed

 

Who You Are

  • Strategic thinker with a customer-centric mindset and a desire for creative problem solving, looking to make a big impact in a growing organization 
  • 5+ years of experience working as a professional data scientist, ML engineer, or software developer. Consistent track record of autonomously delivery of DS/ML projects that drive measurable business impact. 
  • Demonstrated success influencing senior level stakeholders on strategic direction based on recommendations backed by in-depth analysis; Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Collaborative team player who wants to see themselves and others thrive. Experience mentoring and developing a DS or Eng team.
  • Proficient in one or more programming languages, e.g. Python, R, Java, C++, etc.
  • Nice-to-haves:
    • Experience with GCP, Airflow, and containerization (Docker)
    • Experience building scalable data processing pipelines with big data tools such as Hadoop, Hive, SQL, Spark, etc.
    • Experience in Bayesian Learning, Multi-armed Bandits, or Reinforcement Learning
