Job Title: Data ScientistLocation: Houston, TX (Locals highly preferred, non locals also fine but need to be Onsite from day 1).Duration: 3+ Months
Duties:We are looking for someone with at least 5 years' experience working in Data and Business Intelligence. Experience with SQL, SSIS, Tableau, PowerBI (or other Business Intelligence / Reporting tools) is wanted as this job will be working with companies to gather business requirements and translate those requirements into consumable reports for end users. Must have experience with ETL and the ability to ensure quality along the full ETL process. Attention to detail on deliverables will be extremely important as the reports that are being created will be used daily by high level decision makers.
Pulling data out of a system and pushing it into a SQL Server database using scripts or automation toolsUsing SQL to manipulate and transform dataPulling data into Power BI / Tableau / other BI toolsBuilding dashboards and reportsWorking with Project Lead and Client resources to understand requirements and present work completedCollaborate with stakeholders and users to understand business challenges, processes, data needs, and data sources.Understand business domain areas as needed to help drive best practices and usage of KPIs.Convert business requirements to technical specifications.Perform data analysis to ensure the delivery of meaningful insights and visualization that help our business achieve their goalsDesign and create business intelligence dashboards and reports with user experience focus that outline KPIs with visualization and data accuracy.Participate in evaluation, implementation and maintenance of business intelligence software and systems, including integrations.Provide and execute test and data validation plans and scripts.Provide troubleshooting, support and training documentation.Advise, consult, mentor and coach other analytic professionals on standards and practicesReview and analyze current processes and procedures and identify opportunities for improvementWork as a trusted advisor to IT and business team members.Foster a culture of sharing, re-use, design for scale stability, and operational efficiency of reporting and analytical solutionsPartner with solutions architects, data engineers, domain leads, product owner, and digital product teams.
Skills: Technical - Must have and preferred knowledge and experience in the following:
o Experience working with a variety of data sources, platforms and connections (SQL Server, Oracle, cloud resources, SAP BW/ S4/ HANA), noSQLo Experience with developing solutions in complex environments including cloud computing services and infrastructure in analytics space.o Experience in Azure and Microsoft environment and resources: Azure data lake, Azure SQL, Synapse or Snowflake, Power BI.o Worked with variety of BI tools such as SAP BI, Business Objects, Tableau, Power BI, SSAS, SSIS, SSRS, Looker, Shiny, Pythono Experience in publishing dashboards and reports in a Power BI environment.o Experience with SQL queries, filters, DAX, measures, joins.o Passionate about Agile software processes, data-driven development, analytics, and visualization.o Experience working on a collaborative Agile product teamo Self-motivated with strong problem-solving and learning skillso Flexibility to changes in work direction as the project developso Excellent communication, listening, and influencing skillso Demonstrated strong number sense, intellectually curious and willing to adjust position based on additional informationo Strong work ethic; ability to work at an abstract level and gain consensuso Demonstrated aptitude for learning new technologies.o Experience with Machine Learning and Advanced Analytics is desired.
Communication - Speech and hearing abilities that allow the individual to communicate clearly and distinctly in English (in person and via telephone) and/or other language, if required. Strong communication skills with a proven ability to understand key concepts and communicate effectively with technical staff, business stakeholders, and senior management. Proven ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical people to enhance understanding and drive decisions that lead to positive outcomes.
Attendance - Ability to attend work on a regular and consistent basis.
Other - Strong organizational skills, the ability to perform under pressure and manage multiple priorities with competing demands for resources. Strong analytical, data-processing and problem-solving skills.
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Informatics, or equivalent.
