Staff Data Scientist

Fraud Prevention is one of the global domains run from our Berlin office. Its mandate is to make sure that fraudsters stay out, while legitimate customers aren’t blocked from shopping for their home. Handling fraud attempts at our scale is a huge, but exciting challenge. In 2020, Wayfair served >31M customers and generated revenue of >$14B growing 55% YoY. 

You will be part of a strong cross-functional team of Data Scientists, MLEs, engineers, product managers and ops analysts to build real-time fraud detection services.

Our team works in a fast paced and collaborative environment, and is razor-focused on delivering business value. As a part of the global Data Science community spanning various verticals, you will enjoy learning about the latest applications of ML in areas including Fraud, NLP, Search & Recsys, Marketing and Supply Chain.

Example challenges we face today:

• Detect associated accounts or organized fraud rings via graph based methods.
• Design human in the loop system, e.g. active learning to guide controlled experimentation and manual review process.
• Build feature extraction process, e.g. Deep Learning for behavioral data.

What You Will Do:

• Develop machine learning models for detecting malicious activities like account takeovers, fraudulent transactions, scam or card testing
• Productionize ML model service closely collaborating with ML Engineers
• Design end-to-end DS systems by translating business and product requirements
• Leverage the knowledge of state-of-the-art methodology and industry best practices to raise the technical standard of the team and Wayfair Data Science community
• Lead your teammates by example, as a senior member of the team your code and system designs demonstrate the path the team should follow
• Contribute to and influence our technology and product strategy and roadmaps 
• Help others learn and improve to push the bar of how good data science looks like
• Communicate and collaborate across the wider organization, influencing decisions  without direct authority with inclusive, adaptable and persuasive communication.

What you Will Need:

• Master’s degree in a quantitative field; PhD is an asset. 
• Minimum 8 years of industry experience in a data science or 5 years of industry experience with PHD
• Proficiency in Python
• Solid experience productionizing ML models, preferably in real-time use case
• Industry Experience in Fraud domain big plus
• Intellectual Curiosity and strong desire for continuous learning
