Spotify is looking for a Staff Engineer to join our Marketplace engineering organization - Spotify’s division that is dedicated to helping artists thrive. Marketplace’s mission is to build tools that help artists and their teams build an audience, monetize their fans, and live off their work. A key focus of that mission is to empower the 1 million+ monthly active artists using Spotify for Artists with self-serve marketing tools.
As the team responsible for Spotify for Artists, we build user-facing products that provide artists and their teams with the powerful stats and tools they need to grow their audience, connect with fans, manage their Spotify presence, and earn a living off their work. In this role, you’d work with engineers, product managers, researchers, and data scientists to build new features in the Spotify for Artists product.
You will take on complex data-related problems using some of the most diverse datasets available -- user behaviors, revenue streams, cultural and contextual data, and other signals across our broad range of platforms and collaborate with multiple teams on building the most efficient, reliable, and scalable data product that continuously evolves through experimentation and fast iterations.

What you'll do

  • Provide leadership within your product area, and across the mission
  • Coordinate technical projects that span multiple development teams.
  • Facilitate collaboration between engineers, product managers, operations, and designers.
  • Translate product and business goals into technology by building relationships and seeking to understand the underlying needs.
  • Be a leader of the Spotify-wide data and backend developer community affecting and driving our architecture across the company.
  • Mentor engineers in ways to develop their skills.
  • Drive good engineering practices within your team(s).
  • Challenge yourself to keep growing as a senior developer
  • Contribute to the vision and long-term strategy
  • Spread learning across the organization (gives internal talks, write on internal blogs, etc).
  • Be a department-level expert in a particular area or tribe-level go-to person for solving problems in your domain of expertise.
  • Build large-scale batch and real-time data pipelines with data processing frameworks like Scio, Storm, Spark on Google Cloud Platform.
  • Help drive optimization, testing and tooling to improve data quality.

Who you are

  • You have at least 7 years of professional experience working in a product-driven environment.
  • You have proven experience as a technical leader for a team/department.
  • You have experience mentoring and supporting peers and engineering teams.
  • You know how to write distributed, high-volume services in Java or Scala.
  • You are knowledgeable about data modeling, data access, and data storage techniques.
  • You care about agile software processes, data-driven development, reliability, and responsible experimentation.
  • You understand the value of collaboration within teams.

Where you'll be

  • We are a distributed workforce enabling our band members to find a work mode best for them!
  • Where in the world? For this role, it can be within the Americas region in which we have a work location
  • Prefer an office to work from home instead? Not a problem! We have plenty of options for your working preferences. Find more information about our Work From Anywhere options here.
