We’re looking for an experienced Data Engineering leader, who will develop and execute a long-term strategy for reliable, performant, and scalable data platforms at Wayfair. In this role, you will bring extensive experience in both, technical delivery on data and a strong customer-centric approach to product management. Working within the Data Engineering organization, this individual will tightly partner with business leaders to understand their long-term goals and build data platforms enabling these goals. 

You will own and build the long-term vision for a world-class data platform. You will build and prioritize a roadmap to get our data engineering teams to that ideal state, enabling critical decision-making by data consumers. You will put mechanisms in place to ensure your org delivers high-quality, scalable, and performant data models and pipelines. You will work guide data engineers with industry-best data eng techniques to innovate and build new data models and data pipelines, improve and enhance existing data platforms as well as discover new opportunities to apply analytics, data science, and machine learning to solve critical problems.

You will also be expected to partner cross-functionally with advanced analytics, software engineering, data science, and other key teams to build a high-value roadmap of innovation for data eng that fits into the larger Wayfair mission. You will ensure effective communication and high-performing teamwork across organizations, leveraging tried and tested processes and techniques from your past. You will lead data and analytics platform adoption, recommendations, aligning strategic technical decisions, and will guide the team with your technical expertise. You will mentor, coach, and grow staff with core data eng competencies across Wayfair.

What You’ll Do:

  • Establish vision, strategy, and product roadmap for a cross-functional group of development teams across data engineering. You will own your roadmap, measure performance, keep your pulse on the customer, anticipate bottlenecks, make tradeoffs, and take acceptable risks to maximize the benefit for our customer and business
  • Partner with business stakeholders to deeply understand their businesses and co-develop potential solutions to supercharge growth, improve efficiency, and increase automation
  • Own and develop the technical architecture, design, and implementation of data platforms to empower large stakeholder groups
  • Lead your teams to deliver business impact by launching and iteratively optimizing products that improve our user experience in ways that lead to scalable, measurable gains in business metrics
  • Communicate and evangelize the product vision and progress throughout Wayfair from C-level stakeholders on down
  • Develop and monitor OKRs for key product initiatives and ensure alignment with stakeholder objectives

What You’ll Need:

  • 10+ years of product management experience for data engineering or analytics teams in an Agile development environment, ideally with exposure to a relevant product area (eCommerce; Advertising-tech; Marketing-tech; site development)
  • 7+ years experience successfully leading and growing high-performing data engineering teams that are highly effective both in terms of business impact and team culture
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, with strong technical and product background in data engineering
