A day in the life
The focus of this role will be technical (50%), stakeholder management (30%), and data operations/oncall(20%).
We are also looking for folks who will be driving projects independently (100%).
About the hiring group
The Alexa eXperience Data (AXD) team started as a central Business Intelligence (BI) team. Over the 6 years as the Alexa organization has grown the focus of BI has been distributed within the products areas respectively. AXD is redefining itself to focus on the manufacturing the delivery of data products focused on driving customer experience (CX) insights.
These insights serve as inputs into the P&L, helps the organization understand accuracy of our AI algorithms , users propensity to spend additional dollars based on their interactions.
The 3 year vision for this team is become a producer of comprehensive and complete Alexa specific customer interactions. Product Managers, Business Intelligence Engineers, Data Engineers, and Project Managers can then use it to understand how their features are being consumed. For example, How many users who have linked music account spend speaking to Alexa?, How many people ask for weather versus the news?

We are looking for candidates who want to help shape the future of human-computer interactions. Specifically, we are looking for an outstanding Data Engineer who is looking to work in a new space to help define how we use data to understand customer behavior and satisfaction. In this role, you will develop and support the analytic technologies that give our teams flexible and structured access to their data.
The successful candidate will be an expert with SQL, ETL (and general data system architecture and data wrangling) and have exemplary communication skills. The candidate will need to be a self-starter, comfortable with ambiguity in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment, and able to think big while paying careful attention to detail.
Responsibilities
You know and love working with business intelligence tools, can model multidimensional datasets, and can partner with customers to answer key business questions. You will also have the opportunity to display your skills in the following areas:
· Design, implement, and support a platform providing ad hoc access to large datasets
· Interface with other technology teams to extract, transform, and load data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL
· Manage AWS Resources
· Model data and metadata for ad hoc and pre-built reporting
· Interface with business customers, gathering requirements and delivering complete reporting solutions
· Own the design, development, and maintenance of datasets to drive key business decisions
· Recognize and adopt best practices in reporting and analysis: data integrity, test design, analysis, validation, and documentation
· Continually improve ongoing reporting and analysis processes, automating or simplifying self-service support for customers
· Participate in strategic & tactical planning discussions, including annual budget processes

· 3+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role
· Experience with data modeling, data warehousing, and building ETL pipelines
· Experience in SQL
· Knowledge of Advanced SQL and a programming language
· Experience with large-scale data warehousing and analytics projects, including using AWS technologies – Redshift, S3, EC2, Data-pipeline and other big data technologies

Basic Qualifications
· 3+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role
· Experience with data modeling, data warehousing, and building ETL pipelines
· Experience in SQL
Preferred Qualifications
· Graduate degree in computer science, business, mathematics, statistics, economics, or other quantitative field· Knowledge of Advanced SQL and a programming language
· Experience with large-scale data warehousing and analytics projects, including using AWS technologies – Redshift, S3, EC2, Data-pipeline and other big data technologies
