Learning Science and Engineering is seeking a passionate and pragmatic Manager, Data Engineering to develop new workplace learning systems for Amazon and the world. The Learning Science and Engineering organization is reinventing workplace learning by building the programs, products, technologies and mechanisms that make learning effective and scalable for Amazon employees. As a Data Engineering Manager, you are responsible for managing the team comprising Data Engineers and BI Engineers. The primary area of your focus is on data engineering innovation and core data platform services (Enterprise Data Lake and Data Warehouse) through self-service data products to gain business insights. You own the Data Engineering roadmap and prioritize engineering requests to balance the tactical and strategic information needs of the business. In addition, you will spearhead enterprise wide data security, governance, and cost efficiency initiatives, empowered through the latest industry trends and best practices.
This position provides a unique and rare opportunity to extend and scale a product that has already delivered results for multiple internal teams. A successful candidate will be an experienced people manager who also possesses strong technical knowledge in data engineering, data observability, Infrastructure automation, data ops methodology, systems architecture, and development. You will have experience managing an engineering team and have implemented large scale data engineering solutions consumed by a variety of applications and systems. · Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or an equivalent combination of technical education and work experience.
· 5+ years of experience in Data Engineering, Software Development, Business Intelligence, Data Science, or related field with a track record of manipulating, processing, and extracting value from large datasets.
· 5+ years of relevant work experience in a role requiring application of analytic skills to integrate data into operational planning/business planning.
· Experience managing Data Engineers, and/or Business Intelligence Engineers.
· Experience in data modeling, ETL development, and data warehousing
· Experience using big data technologies (Hadoop, Hive, Hbase, Spark, EMR, etc.)
· Proven success in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe data modeling decisions and data engineering strategy.
· Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment with minimal outside direction, while constantly advancing long term goal.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Experience defining system architectures and exploring technical feasibility trade-offs.
· Experience working with AWS big data technologies (Redshift, S3, EMR).
· Experience building complex data systems that handle large data sets and that have been successfully delivered to customers.
· Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
· Ability to lead a team to deliver a project/program from scoping requirements through actual launch.
· Have strong technical knowledge in building web services and highly scalable applications

Basic Qualifications
