SemanticBits is looking for a talented Data Engineer who is eager to apply computer science, software engineering, databases, and distributed/parallel processing frameworks to prepare big data for the use of data analysts and data scientists. If you have experience with Scala and Spark and want your work to contribute to systems that collect healthcare data used by hundreds of thousands of daily users, we want to (virtually) meet you! Candidates must be able to obtain a Public Trust and must have U.S. residency for at least 3 out of the last 5 years.

Responsibilities

  • Design, architect, implement, and support key datasets that deliver actionable business insights. 
  • Work closely with data analysts and data scientists to define data requirements to ensure high quality and optimal data is collected.  
  • Retrieve and analyze data through SQL or other data management systems. 
  • Develop ETL processes that convert data into formats through a team of data analysts and dashboard charts. 
  • Develop reliable data pipelines that translate raw data into features and signals.
  • Responsible for continual improvement of business data platforms, systems, and processes through observation, research, and industry best practices.  
  • Mentor junior data engineers to support team learning and development. 
  • Use a variety of computer programming languages, software utilities, frameworks, relational databases, and technologies such as Scala, Unix, Git, Spark UI, IntelliJ, Jenkins, Zeppelin, Confluence, Hadoop, SBT and Spark SQL and AWS.

Qualifications

  • Requires a Master’s Degree in Computer Science or a closely related field and 3 years of experience as a Data Engineer, Software Developer, Systems Engineer or in a related position. 
  • Must have prior experience in using Scala, Unix, Git, Spark UI, Jenkins, Zeppelin, Confluence, and Hadoop.
