When you think of commerce at Spotify, you might think of the millions of subscribers and their transactions from purchasing Premium subscriptions. But as we deliver on our mission to connect creators with fans and empower creators to live off of their art, we are diversifying revenue streams in many areas. From enabling fans to purchase merchandise from their favourite artists, to enabling podcasters to monetize ad space in their content - all of this will be powered by our commerce platform.
As a commerce platform team, our mission is to unlock commerce at Spotify through an outstanding platform that enables teams to quickly and safely build businesses and create user value. As a data scientist in the product insights team, you will contribute to the understanding of our users and products, unearthing and communicating insights to inform the entire product development cycle

What You'll Do

  • Be a strategic partner to product development teams by delivering insights that inform the problems we choose to seek and craft the future of our roadmaps.
  • Gain a deep understanding of how products and platforms influence both end user and internal user behaviour, and represent the voice of our users in the product development process.
  • Be an advocate for data-informed decision-making, enabling our product teams to focus on fulfilling the right needs of our internal customer teams
  • Report on our critical metrics, identifying trends and areas of opportunity / risk
  • Build data pipelines and dashboards to ensure we are always measuring the most relevant and meaningful metrics. Define the metrics we use to measure the health of initiatives and track them through dashboards.
  • Communicate insights and recommendations through clear visualisations and presentations to technical and non-technical partners respectively
  • Use a wide range of methods (Experimentation, Causal inference, regression methods, Machine learning etc.) to evaluate the potential impact of product opportunities
  • Work with product teams on all things product experimentation. Find ideal testing opportunities, conduct statistically robust experiments to help product teams understand how changes to the user experience impact user behaviours and our internal metrics
  • Partner with user research to combine qualitative and quantitative insights into more powerful and compelling stories - understanding the what and the why.
  • Collaborate with insight partners across the organisation and contribute to the wider data science practice.

Who You Are

  • You have at least 2+ years of experience in Data Science or related fields.
  • You have the technical competence to perform analytics: wrangling and querying data (SQL), coding skills (such as R, Python), experience with analytics & visualisation libraries (pandas, tidyverse, seaborn, ggplot), visualisation tools (Tableau / Looker), and experience performing analysis with large datasets in a cloud-based data processing environment, such as BigQuery or similar.
  • You’re comfortable dealing with loosely defined problems, crafting a plan of work and delivering relevant answers and meaningful insights.
  • Experience defining / implementing / reporting on metrics.
  • Experience visualising data and/or building dashboards.
  • Good communicator, who focuses just as much on the delivery and the “so what” of your insights, as you do on the technical craft of extracting them. You’re able to distill complex analysis into simple, impactful recommendations.
  • You have an understanding of how to instrument products to accurately capture user and system behaviours.
  • You have strong interpersonal skills and are comfortable working with multiple partners.
  • You bring passion and playfulness to your work and those around you. You’re highly curious and have a learning mentality.
  • Excellent problem solving skills with good attention to detail.
  • Experience working with technical engineering teams.
