Data Engineer - Contractor (1012)

Groundbreaking advances in synthetic biology achieved at Amyris allow us to create products that are better and safer for humans and more sustainable for the planet. The Digital group is charged with creating connected experiences and back-end services to catapult our several consumer brands to global significance and impact. Today, we serve Biossance, Pipette and Purecane. Among other projects, we are building two new brands that will launch later this year. We are creating a clean cosmetics line in partnership with Rosie Huntington-Whitely to launch on a new Rose, Inc. platform. We are creating a clean hair care brand, JVN Hair, in partnership with Jonathan Van Ness. We recently acquired Terasana and Costa Brazil.
We are looking for a Sr. or Lead Data Engineer to join the growing Amyris Digital team. Reporting to the VP of Data this person will play a central role in advancing all aspects of our data management system. This includes playing a major role in the development of Amyris’s next generation data platform.

Responsibilties

• Define and maintain optimized data models and pipelines
• Assemble and munge data sets across multiple sources and systems
• Build out Analytic tools that help stakeholders understand our operations and customers
• Create tools and data sets to assist other technical and non-technical groups within the company
• Mentor and lead junior members of the team
• Create and update internal system documentation

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physical Science, or related field
• 4+ years of experience building out robust production ready data services and platforms
• Expertise in SQL, data lakes, data warehousing, and ETL systems
• Expertise in at least one major programing language beyond SQL (Java, Python, C++, etc.)
• Experience working with ‘big data’ and associated systems.
• Familiarity with best practices and processes for managing PII and access rights management
• In depth knowledge of creating solutions on at least one of the large public cloud providers: AWS, GCC, or Azure
• Experience working within Salesforce, Domo, or other modern Analytic platforms
• Ability to discuss projects and systems with all members of the company

Preferred Qualifications

• Masters/PhD. in Computer Science, Engineering, Physical Science, or related field.
• 7+ years of experience building out robust data services and platforms.
• Experience with stream processing systems.
• Experience building out automated data QA system.
• Experience with: KPIs, Analytics, Reporting, Dashboards, or Data Science solutions
• Experience in creating well thought out data models.
• History of running data centric and/or data management projects.
• Ability to manage stakeholder discussions.
