About the Team

The Marketing Technology team is responsible for driving host and guest growth. We do this through a variety of marketing campaigns, both paid marketing and free. We build products that allow us to reach more audiences, improve our targeting, and optimize our bidding. 

About the Role

We’re looking for a strong Data Scientist to work in our Search Engine Marketing (SEM) space.  Search Engine Marketing buys ads on web and app search engines to surface after a user has submitted a query.  In this role, key responsibilities will be to find opportunities to optimize our advertising strategy. This will involve optimizing keywords, bidding, and regional spend. Testing whether our ads are incremental to the business will be another key responsibility. Finally, we are exploring user targeting (beyond keyword targeting), and this person would help us develop and optimize our approach. We are looking for a creative thinker who will be a strong though partner to our Engineering and Marketing team.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years Data Science experience & a Master's degree in a quantitative field (Statistics, Physics, Economics, Engineering); PhD a plus
  • Previous background in the SEM and/or SEO space a big plus
  • Deep knowledge of experiment design and causal inference
  • Strong knowledge in Machine Learning algorithms (to handle bidding and content classification)
  • Fluency in the core toolkit of Data Science:
    • R/Python; SQL/Hive
    • Manipulating large-scale data sets
    • Building data pipelines
    • Developing funnels & decomposing metrics variation
    • Creating innovative metrics
    • Implementing visualizations, dashboards, and reports
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proven ability to succeed in both collaborative and independent work environments
  • Demonstrated track record of product leadership and ability to lead and influence teams
  • Entrepreneurial drive and demonstrated ability to achieve stretch goals in an innovative and fast-paced environment
