Udemy is looking for a senior data scientist to partner with our Pricing and Monetization team to work on optimizing marketplace pricing which is critical to grow the business by delivering the right value to its customers.  As a Senior Pricing Data scientist, you will rely on quantitative methods and business intuition, and utilize a combination of modeling, experimentation, and causal inference methods to drive the pricing related decisions at Udemy.

Here’s What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to inform business direction
  • Be a subject matter expert and thought leader in the area of pricing and help drive the data science roadmap
  • Develop end-to-end modeling solutions for price optimization, build and maintain relevant data pipelines and workflows
  • Lead experimentation and causal analysis (beyond standard A/B tests) to support pricing decisions and improve pricing models
  • Define metrics and build dashboards to track health of the pricing system
  • Proactively influence prioritization through data-driven insights
  • Effectively communicate and present to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Provide technical mentorship to others
  • Build Udemy’s technical brand through talks, blog posts, and publications

We’re Excited About You Because You Have:

  • 4+ years of relevant experience or 2+ years of relevant experience with a post-graduate education such as PhD in a quantitative field. Experience in the pricing domain is preferred
  • Hands on experience in statistical/ML modeling, optimization, causal inference/econometrics and experimental design
  • Ability to communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong business and product intuition as well as judgement
  • Strong data storytelling and data visualization ability

Here Are Some Questions You Could Be Working On:

  • What is the right price for a course? When should we make price changes?
  • How does price sensitivity vary across different market and course characteristics?
  • How often and when should we promote courses? What is the right level of discount?
  • How does pricing in our marketplace impact other lines of our business (e.g. B2B offerings)?
  • How can we balance between long term and short term effects of price changes?
