As our new Data Scientist in the Trust & Safety domain, you’ll become a member of a cross-functional Product department. Your future team will be self-sufficient, consisting of Product Owner, Designer, Engineers and you (Data Scientist), to have all the skills necessary to ship new features to our members, fast. You and your team will identify user problems, evaluate opportunities, and look for new and improved solutions to help our members trade safely and successfully.
Trust & Safety domain at Vinted is focused on ensuring safety and security for the Vinted community. Three core pillars in the domain are member support (ensuring effective customer support), member safety (reducing spam, scam, pervertism on the platform) and content quality (no fake items or items that do not follow Vinted policy on the platform). Content quality is expected to be the primary focus for the Data Scientist in this position, but inevitably you would touch the other areas of Trust & Safety too.
To be successful in this role you’ll need to have both, strong business skills and strong technical skills (statistics, coding with Python/R, etc.). Data-driven decisions are at the core of the Data Scientist’s role, so you need to be able to examine the data to uncover underlying trends and to interpret the business context correctly to make sure that the team makes quality decisions.

In this position, you’ll:

  • Identify opportunities for your team to improve business metrics (opportunities for algorithms as well as for product features)
  • Analyse identified opportunities to understand their scope and impact (i.e. size opportunities) 
  • Work together with your cross-functional team (Product Owner, Designer, Engineers) to refine, implement and test new product features and algorithms
  • Track the key business metrics by developing dashboards as well as setting and forecasting key prioritized metrics
  • Set-up and analyze complex AB tests
  • Employ statistical and ML techniques to develop predictive models and draw insights about the user behaviour
  • Author data pipelines via Spark- and Scala-based ETL framework

About you:

  • 1+ years experience as a full-time Data Scientist or Data Analyst
  • 2+ years of full-time work experience in a business environment
  • A strong background in data structures, algorithms, statistics
  • Scripting skills in Python or R
  • At least a basic understanding of machine learning methods
  • Highly business-results-oriented and comfortable with iterative processes
  • A good communicator who can present results in an informative and persuasive manner
  • A degree in statistics, mathematics, econometrics or a similar field
  • Excellent at communicating in written and spoken English

Optional, but advantageous (for mid-to-upper salary bracket):

  • Extensive work experience is an advantage: 3+ years experience as a full-time Data Scientist or Data Analyst; 5+ years of work experience in a product-driven business organisation; experience working in a tech company or in a cross-functional product development team
  • Mentorship experience is an advantage: experience of mentoring other data scientists or establishing/owning people development processes; driving technical data science excellence by bringing industry best practices to the organization
  • Strong technical skills is an advantage: advanced statistics / econometrics skills; advanced AB testing skills (experience of designing and analysing large-scale complex user behaviour tests, cluster testing, switchback testing); advanced understanding of machine learning methods; advanced coding skills in Python; Scala knowledge
