The Freemium R&D team oversees the entire user journey on Spotify and ensures we engage with people in innovative ways, every step of the way. Our team grows Spotify’s audience by finding future listeners around the world and delivering the right value to them, at the right time. With research, product development, product design, engineering, and marketing all collaborating in one organization, we’re able to quickly create meaningful features and services for millions of people around the world, resulting in joyful, long-lasting relationships with Spotify.
We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist to join the Ada Insights team. As part of Ada, we work across the entire freemium funnel from launching new markets, identifying growth opportunities across new and mature markets to activating new users and converting those who can afford it to our premium offering. All of this in service of our mission to elevate the audio experience for both creators and fans. You will be part of the multidisciplinary Freemium Insights team; a fun loving and engaging group of highly motivated people specialising in User Research and Data Science.
In this role, you will work on a cross-functional team which uses analysis, experimentation and machine learning to drive improvements in user sign-up to Spotify’s free product. You will work with vast data sets to deliver impactful dashboards and analysis pieces. You will also support exploratory analysis to better understand key user behaviors and investigate any sign-up errors. Lastly, you will have a leadership role in evolving our user testing platform and machine learning personalisation platform for sign-up.

What you'll do

  • Partner closely with cross-functional teams to identify the most impactful opportunities to optimise free sign-up and drive increases in MAU
  • Analyse large sets of data to extract impactful insights that can drive your team’s product strategy
  • Support the maintenance and evolution of key data products such as our free testing platform and ML based personalisation platform
  • Plan, build, and manage key data pipelines and dashboards
  • Establish learning agendas, measurement plans and success metrics in close coordination with product teams
  • Communicate insights and recommendations through clear visualizations and presentations
  • Lead experimentation initiatives to optimise free sign-up
  • Be an advocate for data-informed decision making, making recommendations about the product performance and product experience
  • Contribute to the wider Freemium RnD product insights and data science community

Who you are

  • 6+ years of proven ability in a similar data scientist role
  • Degree in data science, computer science, statistics, economics, mathematics, or a similar quantitative field
  • You have deep understanding of a breadth of statistics and modeling concepts (e.g. a/b testing, significance testing, regression models, causal inference in marketing and product launches, Bayesian techniques)
  • Significant experience with product analytics, including crafting success metrics, running power analyses, determining statistical significance, and communicating findings with clear product recommendations or implications
  • You have hands-on experience extracting and synthesizing insights from data using coding skills (Python or Scala), analytics tools (Pandas, R, SPSS, BigQuery, or SQL), and visualisation tools (Tableau or Google Data Studio)
  • You know how to scope and solve loosely defined problems and come up with meaningful insights to guide product development decisions
  • You’re a compelling storyteller who can communicate in succinct and inspiring ways to audiences with varied data science experience to influence real world product or feature decisions
  • You are comfortable researching and learning about new methods, tools and techniques, and enjoy experimenting with novel ways of approaching a problem
  • Familiarity with machine learning (such as predictive modelling, decision trees, classification models, clustering techniques)
