Introducing Sora: Creating video from text

We’re looking for a Data Engineer to work on the Multimodal team’s pipeline to gather data and to supply it in flexible and efficient ways to train our models. In this role, you’ll work with very large amounts of image, text, audio, and video data, with a particular focus on tracking whether data in these different forms are likely to have related semantic content. You’ll also work with the team to curate evaluation datasets to measure model performance across these different modalities.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Own and architect our team’s data pipeline. This includes finding appropriate data sources, scraping data, filtering, post-processing, de-duplicating, and versioning. It also means working with researchers to turn messy and quickly changing prototypes into robust scalable systems.
  • Think about how we can store, process, and load massive amounts of data efficiently, and how we can take advantage of relationships between the data. We’re looking to develop an increasingly rich graph of the way our data interconnects. These links already form the basis of projects like Jukebox, CLIP, and DALL-E, and we’ll want to build increasingly general versions of this.
  • Develop and maintain evaluations to measure the effectiveness of our training data. This includes measuring the capabilities of our models on a variety of tasks and domains.
  • Work with the team to understand their data and evaluation needs and develop tools that make it easy for individuals to contribute and consume data.
  • Work with researchers to improve data quality as measured on downstream evals (e.g. zero-shot performance, generative capability, safer behavior on bias evals, …).

You might like this role if you:

  • Like to take ownership while working with others to understand their needs.
  • Enjoy iterating quickly with research prototypes.
  • Enjoy building tooling that is easy to use and extensible.
  • Thrive in a research environment where solutions are non-obvious and require deep thinking, creativity, and autonomy.
  • Are excited to work with massive amounts of data and the resulting challenges (storage, processing, ...)
