At Guidewire, we offer a combination of good working conditions, an excellent market opportunity, a rational and meritocratic company culture, quality software products, and a long history of careful hiring have allowed us to create an enviable work environment. Our Machine Learning team here at Guidewire is responsible for building Machine Learning Systems and Tools that make Guidewire products more intelligent and helps deliver analytics at scale. We are constantly faced with results-oriented challenges in the areas of Natural Language Processing, Deep Learning, Risk Modeling and Operational Analytics. You will be working in a team of 10 of data scientists and engineers who hunt down non-obvious datasets and apply ML techniques to enhance more traditional insurance underwriting processes.
What will I be doing?Guidewire is offering a 3-month internship in the ML team. The internship is designed to give an opportunity to work in a real-world business environment, and to take responsibility for a specific data project that has the potential to provide real value to our customers. You will be hunting down data sets that have the potential to add lift to our underwriting risk models. Your task will be to look at data sources in a particular area, work out how to source and clean the data, and investigate whether the data can add lift to our models. Example of data sets that you might be looking at would be:·        Explore datasets for population and housing density – as high resolution as possible,·        Explore census datasets that could be predictive,·        Explore other fields in the Google Places API. You will be mentored by experienced data scientists and data engineers, and exposed to advanced ML techniques and approaches to product ionizing data pipelines and machine learning workflows. You will be writing Python code, wrangling data from a range of sources and building models. You will get exposure to working on AWS including the Sage Maker ML framework.
