About the role:
Udemy is looking for a data science intern to work with our Udemy For Business (UFB) decision science team during Summer 2021. Data science interns draw on a combination of quantitative methods and product intuition to find actionable insights that drive key business decisions at Udemy. We are interested in questions such as:
What makes a company the right fit for UFB?What are the distinct needs of B2B learners? How do these differ from students in our consumer marketplace?How do we measure and incentivize learner skill attainment?Are ratings a reliable signal of course quality?
About you:
As a data science intern focused on UFB, you’ll be partnering with business leaders, sales representatives, and engineers to identify, scope, and execute on data-centric analyses that drive Udemy’s B2B strategy. Potential project areas include building prospect targeting models, measuring skill attainment, and more.
Success in this role requires a combination of business intuition, broad knowledge of statistical methods, practical data analysis experience, and strong communication and collaboration skills.

Here’s what you’ll be doing:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to inform business direction
  • Define key metrics and build actionable dashboards
  • Build predictive models to drive B2B decision making
  • Write pipelines to improve the quality and accessibility of data
  • Proactively influence prioritization through data-driven insights
  • Design and analyze experiments + conduct ad hoc analyses

We’re excited about you because you have:

  • 2+ years of experience working with complex data sets
  • Broad knowledge of applied statistics, predictive modeling, and experimental design
  • Proficiency with SQL, Excel, and 1+ programming languages (e.g., R or Python)
  • Strong product intuition and business-oriented mindset
  • Ability to communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders
  • Expert level data storytelling and data visualization ability
  • Experience with BI tools (e.g. Looker, Chartio, or Tableau)
