Software Engineer - Machine Learning

Image understanding is at the heart of what makes Facet unique. Knowing the semantic, textural, and physical properties of any photo allows us to explore completely novel editing abstractions that empower our users. Between the many image properties we need to extract and the rapidly-evolving state of computer vision research, it is vital that we be able to train, evaluate, and ship models quickly, and ensure that these models can be easily integrated into our web-based frontend.

You would work across the Facet tech stack to build out ML-based features along with the internal tooling and infrastructure to support them. These models will support features such as object selection and matting, image inpainting, and example-based color adjustment. They will need to not only be fast and accurate, but produce results in a way that our users can understand and reason about.

This role offers the unique opportunity to navigate the challenge of uniting professional artists and ML algorithms into the same creative loop. If you’re as interested in that as we are, we hope we’ll be hearing from you.

Requirements

• Experience training, evaluating, and deploying ML models into production.

• Professional or research experience with image segmentation, classification, or synthesis models.

• Demonstrated ability to propose effective solutions, build them quickly, and iterate on them in response to feedback.

• Aptitude for clearly communicating difficult technical concepts.

• Empathy for the designers, artists, and the visual creative workers who will be using our product.

Responsibilities

• Train, evaluate, and deploy deep learning and generative models that would be useful to Facet.

• Scale up Facet’s ML serving capabilities as our user base grows.

• Be ruthless about latency and performance; Facet is integral to our users’ professional work.

• Build out the tooling that will support future model development.
