About the role

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Data Engineer to join our team and collaborate with our machine learning engineers. As a Data Engineer, you will be responsible for commissioning new data, collecting user data, and ensuring the efficient processing and delivery of data ready for ingestion by our machine learning models. Familiarity with MIDI and Audio formats is essential for this role. The ideal candidate should possess strong technical skills, proficiency in Python programming, and knowledge of machine learning frameworks like PyTorch. If you also have a background or interest in music, it would be a significant advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with machine learning engineers to understand data requirements for model training and evaluation.
  • Design and implement data collection systems, including data pipelines and processes for acquiring user data.
  • Commission new data by creating tools and interfaces to gather, validate, and curate datasets from various sources.
  • Develop data processing workflows to transform and prepare raw data into a format suitable for machine learning algorithms.
  • Ensure the quality, accuracy, and reliability of collected and processed data.
  • Optimize data storage and retrieval systems to facilitate efficient data access and analysis.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to identify and address data-related challenges and provide timely solutions.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in data engineering, machine learning, and related technologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent work experience will also be considered.
  • Strong proficiency in Python programming and experience with relevant libraries and frameworks.
  • Solid understanding of data engineering concepts, including data modeling, ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes, and data pipeline architectures.
  • Familiarity with MIDI and Audio formats, including MIDI message structures, audio file formats, and digital signal processing techniques.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms, such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Experience with database systems and proficiency in SQL.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background or strong interest in music, with knowledge of music theory and composition.
  • Experience with MLOps frameworks, such as MLFlow or KubeFlow.
  • Knowledge of machine learning frameworks, such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or scikit-learn.
