Job Description

Wood Mackenzie is looking for a Master Data Management Engineer with excellent problem solving, teamwork, and communication skills to join our industry-leading data analytics company. We are headquartered in Edinburgh where our team is working on a next generation, data analysis & visualization platform utilized by our customer to drive billion-dollar decisions.

Working with a cross functional team you’ll take full responsibility for writing, testing, and delivering pipelines and processes that get the data into Ataccama mainly working with SQL, refining the models inside the tool and create the rules inside the system UI to support data quality improvements and execute business logic. You’ll be supported to deliver discreet pieces of work which vary in length from a few days, up to a few months.

You will contribute to UI design and build activities for data management, and work with the data stewardship function to make sure these UI’s are fit for purpose and provide recommendation on strategy & roadmap definition to maximize the effectiveness of the MDM implementation.

Building APIs and creating de-normalised views of the data will also be inside the scope of the role so experience of these elements will be of value.

Knowledge & experience 

  • Experience of building custom MDM solutions, hybrid integrations, and implementing full commercial packages from one of the market leaders (e.g. Informatica, Talend, Semarchy etc)
  • Proven track record of MDM & Data Governance delivery
  • Proven skills in Data modelling, data governance, data quality management & related business processes
  • Good understanding of ETL and data integration domains
  • Solid SQL skills
  • Experience of REST APIs and Webservices integration
  • Experience with real time integration
  • Good organization and change / project management skills
  • Knowledge of deploying an MDM solution in a hybrid cloud environment

Once established in the role we expect you to make incremental improvements to our patterns and processes, so we’re looking for someone who has informed opinions on technologies, frameworks, and approaches to delivery. You must be able to articulate ideas effectively and strive to constantly improve deliverables.

Mentoring from experienced colleagues, and access to online training courses will help you to attain a high level of skill, especially for those who primarily have skills in other programming languages. It’s essential that you’re able to take on the challenge of continuous learning and improvement. We actively encourage and support obtaining formal certification such as those offered by AWS.

You’ll work directly with stakeholders, often internationally. It’s essential that you can form a good working relationship with them, understanding what they want and keep them up to date with progress.

Expectations

  • We are a hybrid working company and the successful applicant will be expected to be physically present in the office at least 2 days per week to foster and contribute to a collaborative environment, but this may be subject to change in the future.
  • Due to the global nature of the team, a degree of flexible working will be required to accommodate different time zones.
  • Travel up to 10% may be required.
