About the team: DBX is a commodity analytics startup creating a world-class, real-time Data-as-a-Service platform using deep domain expertise and the latest in Machine Learning and Satellite Earth Observation technologies. In the commodity analytics world, effective decision making and fast reaction times to the market are crucial, however access to trusted information and analyses needed to drive such decisions is difficult and time consuming. With our platform, we empower our users with knowledge ahead of time so that they can effectively optimize their next move in the market.

About the role: We offer an exciting opportunity to contribute and shape state-of-the-art architectures and technology stacks. Currently, we are looking for a Senior Data Scientist to join our Data Science/Analysis team in Athens. The ideal candidate will have a passion for science (mathematics, statistics, machine learning), technology, and data.

What you will do in this role:

• Work with product team to understand the client challenges (within areas such as forecasting future market trends) and identify possible Data Science solutions
• Convert business objectives into a concrete data science & engineering project, breaking it into value-adding manageable chunks, and drive them to completion with minimal guidance
• Collaborate with data analysis, engineering and product development teams to provide solutions, optimizations, and improvements to our product and data strategies
• Conduct mathematical/statistical research to propose algorithms, proofs-of-concept and full solutions for effective decision making
• Present modeling outcomes and valuable information in a clear and coherent way to audiences with varying backgrounds and skillsets
• Act as a trusted source of knowledge and expertise willing to influence, share and help your colleagues
• Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyze model performance and algorithm accuracy.
• Research and identify valuable data sources, pre-process, automate collection processes and assess the effectiveness & accuracy for a wide variety of commodities-related information.
• Analyze large amounts of information from available datasets to discover trends and patterns.

Requirements

What you bring to the team:

• Strong background in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related scientific field. Master’s or/and Ph.D degree preferred
• 5+ years of post-academic data science experience
• Strong skills in applied statistics, time series analysis, nonlinear optimization, algorithms, computational complexity and machine learning techniques such as classification, clustering, and regression.
• Proven production ready programming knowledge in Python, with experience in bringing machine learning projects from prototype to production. Knowledge in R is considered as a plus.
• Working knowledge of data wrangling in relational databases and experience in at least one of Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle
• Applied knowledge of Linux OS and open source tools in general
• Comfortable in acting as a point of contact; explaining complicated methods and data to non-technical colleagues/clients
• Problem-solving aptitude, analytical mind and business acumen
• Excitement about working in a start-up environment: not afraid of challenges, excited to bring new ideas to production, and a positive can-do will-do person, not afraid to push the boundaries of your job role
• Good organization skills and willingness to work in and help the team
• Excellent command of written and spoken English (company’s working language)
